Varsity & Novice

Novice entries: 9

Varsity entries: 22

We’re going to keep the field open and not divide between novice/varsity debaters. Half of the novice pool are all from the same school and separating the pools would put the novice debaters in a round-robin tournament. If you have more questions about this, please feel free to reach out!

Outrounds

With 31 teams we will break to octa-finals. Since this adds an extra round here’s the modified schedule post-prelims:

Parli Topic release - 1:45pm
Parli Octas - 2:00–3:00pm
Parli Topic release - 3:15pm

Quarters Parli - 3:30-4:30pm
Parli Topic release – 4:45pm
Semis Parli – 5:00-6:00pm
Finals Parli topic release & round - ASAP

Time to prep

Students will receive 15 minutes to prep and an extra 2 minutes grace period to make it to their room. By the 17 minute mark, any team that isn’t present in their designated round automatically forfeits that round.

Internet Usage

Internet is available, but the tournament does not guarantee its reliability or connection strength. Additionally, sources from the internet are permitted to be cited in round, but cannot be physically present in the round (i.e., evidence cards, printouts, etc.)

Coaching

Coaches are allowed to assist students during prep time.

Awards
We will be awarding:

The top 3 teams in Debate Sweepstakes (not tied to speech sweepstakes)

All outround participants

The top 6 Speakers, including a top novice speaker

The top Novice pair

Scoring

Each prelim win receives 5 points and each outround win gives 7 points.

Speaker points will only be awarded in prelim rounds and speaker awards don’t count towards sweepstakes points

Feedback & Disclosing

Judges should not give oral feedback until their ballots are turned into the ballot table. Also, judges should not disclose their decision over who won/lost the debate even if the ballot is turned in.
