Email Update - February 28

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for registering for the 2023 Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament – we are so excited to see you Pennsylvania in just a few short weeks! The following email contains important information regarding the following:

Entry Fee Payments

By now, you should have received an email from Phillip Voight (pvoight@gustavus.edu) with a link to pay your tournament entry fees online. Check your spam folder if you do not have this message or email me and I will send it again. The subject will be your school name and “Entry Fee Payment Link.” The link will allow you to pay by credit card securely online. If relevant, it will also include chapter dues and student membership fees. If your institution is paying by check, please send me an email notification so I am aware that that process is in progress.

Title IX Training

Each team must submit verification that all attendees have completed Title IX Training.These documents must be submitted prior to the start of the tournament during the registration period outlined above. Documents will not be accepted during the in-person registration period on March 15th. Please submit your verification documentation to pvoight@gustavus.edu

SpeechWire Account Setup and Activation

Competitors in Extemp must have active SpeechWire accounts to access draw. Coaches, make sure all competitors have SpeechWire accounts – these should be created by the coach and not independently by the student in the SpeechWire system.

All judges must also have an activated SpeechWire account to access their electronic ballots. Please ensure all of your judges have activated their account, including your asynchronous judge, prior to the start of the tournament.

Spanish Language Judges

If you or any of your judges are proficient in Spanish and willing to judge our amazing Spanish Language events please let Jessica know ASAP by emailing Jessica.furgerson@uc.edu

Extemp Commentary Video Uploads & Judging

Events: ALL submission must be received no later than March 15, 2023 by 12:00pm EST. No late videos will be accepted.

You may upload your video to your choice of viewing platform (i.e. vimeo, youtube, google drive) as long as the permission is set to allow anyone with the link to view the performance. Check out step-by-step instructions of this process here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GZkuW3e76w

**It is the responsibility of the competitors/coaches to ensure all videos are accessible to anyone with the link. We recommend using one of the platforms mentioned above and confirming the accessibility of your link prior to submitting. Tournament staff are unable to replace broken links once the submission deadline has passed.**

Judging: If you have not already, schools with entries in Extemp Commentary must designate an asynchronous judge for the tournament. This person will be assigned 1-3 rounds of Extemp Commentary to judge – ballots must be submitted by March 17th at 6:00pm EST. You may utilize one of your onsite judges to meet this requirement; but they will be responsible for completing their asynch rounds in addition to their in-person rounds.

Resume Uploads

Participants in Interviewing must upload a copy of their resume no later than March 15, 2023 by 12:00pm EST. You may upload your resume to your choice of platform (i.e. dropbox, google drive, one drive) as long as the permission is set to allow anyone with the link to view the performance. Student Congress Reminders

Each school with students entered in Student Congress may submit legislation for consideration no later than March 6th to Jessica.furgerson@uc.edu. Schools may choose to submit more than one piece of legislation but are only guaranteed to have one included on the docket; if you choose to submit multiple pieces of legislation please indicate your top choice in your submission email. If you are new to writing legislation check out the templates available here: https://www.speechanddebate.org/legislation-templates/ If you would like to nominate one of your students to serve as Presiding Officer please send your nomination to Jessica.furgerson@uc.edu by March 6th.

 

Campus Resources and Help Desk

Several information pages have been added to SpeechWire to help you prepare for your time on campus including Internet, Dining, and Parking.

A help desk is available to you all weekend as well located on the first floor of the Student Center. You can visit the help desk in-person or contact them via email at pkdhelpdesk@gmail.com or by phone at 484-401-7568
