Draw Information

Draw times will not be rearranged to accommodate double entry.  Students double-entered in a draw event must prioritize their draw time each round, and must adjust their speaking positions in the non-draw event if necessary.

The final round in draw events will not be a clean draw.  Once a student has spoken on a cutting/story, they will not be given the option to speak on that for the rest of the day (including the final round.)

Use of the Internet will be allowed in both Extemp. Speaking and Discussion for research during prep time/the round, but MAY NOT be used for communications purposes.  

Discussion

All tasks will be aligned with Area II (Our Democracy from Within) of the Minnesota State High School League Discussion Outline.  Tasks can come from any subpoint within Area II.

Extemporaneous Reading

Poetry: Cuttings will come from all selections (1-43) of the Minnesota State High School League's 2021-2022 Poetry Selections List from Americans' Favorite Poems, edited by Robert Pinsky and Maggie Dietz.
Prose: Cuttings will come from all selections (1-19) of the Minnesota State High School Leagues 2021-2022 Prose Selections list from There is No Long Distance Now by Naomi Shihab Nye.

Extemporaneous Speaking

Both International and United States Extemp. Speaking will have round areas for each round.

International Extemp. Speaking Topic Areas
Round 1 - Ongoing and Potential Armed Conflicts

Round 3 - Issues Facing Developing Nations
Finals - Russia and China: Domestic Issues and Foreign Policy
