Covid Guidelines AND Waiver

LINK FOR WAIVER AND PROOF OF VACCINATION/NEGATIVE TEST

I know that many of you have reached out about our high school tournament. We are excited to welcome many of you back to University of the Pacific's campus for the 40th annual Jon Schamber High School Forensics Tournament on Friday, October 29 through Sunday, October, 31 2021.

Below you will find information about the tournament events, schedule, fees, etc. However, we want to first address the giant elephant in the room (email window?): Covid 19 Protocols for the tournament.

First, I want to let you all know that these protocols are currently stable but the language is a bit in flux and has been as we have been working to open registration. Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, our Covid and Risk Management teams are meeting to discuss the exact language and finalize the guidelines so you should all receive a notice at the beginning of next week about our final Covid guidelines. Second, I want to assure your students, parents, and you as coaches that Pacific has done an excellent job preparing and enforcing guidelines for in-person learning already this Fall and many of those measures will guide our protocols. The goal is, above all, to keep you and your teams safe while also providing an in-person opportunity for competition and learning. Finally, I want to provide you with the guidelines as we have them now:

COVID GUIDELINES
Pacific's COVID-19 health and safety plan is based upon the current guidance issued by the California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Cal/OSHA), State of California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More information about Pacific’s guidelines can be accessed here: https://www.pacific.edu/covid-19-update

Masks will be required in all indoor spaces and proper distancing will be suggested in all spaces even when masked. All protocols that are in place for your own school should be followed while on University of the Pacific’s campus. All students, judges, and coaches will be required to submit one of the following: proof of vaccination OR proof of a negative test as current as Thursday, October 28th and a declination form.

We will also be utilizing guidelines provided by the CDC and California which can be found here: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/K-12-Guidance-2021-22-School-Year.aspx#:~:text=In%20California%2C%20the%20surest%20path,the%20community%3B%20universal%20masking%20in

The language about vaccination or negative test and decline to be vaccinated form is what our University Covid Committee is meeting to discuss Monday. The University is discussing using the following language "All students, judges, and coaches should follow the guidelines for their respective institutions along with University of the Pacific's guidelines." The plus- it is less of a burden for you and your students. The minus- adult judges not affiliated with institutions (hired) may not be aware of the guidelines.

This is where you come in--If you have thoughts, concerns, or input, please send along so that I can voice, explain, and suggest. We are working off other tournaments we have seen hosting in-person and want to do our best overall to keep you and your students safe. Thank you all so much for supporting the tournament.
