The Penn High School Speech Team invites you to our second annual Dave Dutton Speech Tournament. We will offer all 14 IHSFA speech events and follow IHSFA rules. We are also hosting Northeast and Northwest District Debate, so it will be an exciting and busy day for all speech and debaters. All times listed are Eastern Standard Time. 
 
NE and NW District Debate Registration: 7:00-8:00 in front of the IMC in the commons area. First Rounds will begin at 8:30 EST. Please contact your district chairperson for information on registering. 
 
Speech Registration: 8:00-8:30 in front of the IMC.  
 
Extemp Prep starts at 8:45 with round 1 in all events starting at 9:15 a.m. 
 
Entries: Varsity division with a maximum of 6 per event. 
 
Judges: Please bring 1 judge for every 5 entries (6 entries= 2 judges). *Also please note, coaches may be asked to judge final rounds of debate. 
 
Doubling: All events are allowed to double according to IHSFA rules. 
 
The following regarding doublers in Extemp and Broadcasting: 
1. Extempers MUST go to extemp first and then go to their second event. 
2. Broadcasting doublers MUST go to Broadcasting first. 
 
Events:
All events will go 3 preliminary rounds, with a Final Round of 6 and an Honors Final with the next 6 placers. 
 
Broadcasting:
Round 1 and the Final Round will be a 5-minute news program. Information for the commercial and music copy will be available for download Monday, Jan. 13th after 5 pm EST 
Round 2: 2-minute on the spot
Round 3: 2-minute editorial written on-site. 
 
Discussion: 
Artifacts will be available for download on Monday, Jan. 13th after 5 p.m. 
 
Food: Will be provided all day. Please help support the hosting of this tournament by planning to purchase food in our cafeteria. We really appreciate it :) 
 
Awards: Top 3 finishers in each event will earn sweeps for your team. Ribbons for all finalists (Honor and Top) As well as trophies for the top 5 teams. 
 
Deadline: Registration is Due Wednesday January 15th at 8:00 p.m. (EST).
 
****Judges****
One judge is required for every 4 debaters or portion thereof. 5 debaters = 2 judges. One Policy or Public Forum team = 2 debaters. Please try to bring judges who can judge all events. We will be in need of debate event judges more than we will need Congress type judges. Therefore, please make sure that your judges are able and qualified to judge more than just Congress.
 
 
Pizza will be available for students during lunch. In addition, there will be snacks and drinks available for purchase. There will be a coaches'/judges' lounge with complimentary lunch and snacks available.
