Dear Speech Coach:

You and your students are cordially invited to participate in the 17th Annual Chaska Hawks Speech Invitational on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Chaska High School. It promises to be a great event with great food,and great competition!  We are proud to be a NIETOC bid tournament this year.  We hope to see you there!
 
 
Format:  Three rounds, finals, and honor finals.  First round begins at 9:00 a.m.  Awards ceremony tentatively scheduled for 3:30 p.m.  You should order transportation from CHS for 4:15 pm.  Ext. Speaking, Ext. Reading, and Storytelling will have 30 minute prep, students draw all three rounds.   We will use all 13 MSHSL categories and follow MSHSL rules.  We will also offer POI, using the NSDA rules for this event.  Double entries will be allowed with Discussion rounds starting 15 minutes later than others to accomodate double entries.  Students in  more than one category should only be in one draw category.
 
Registration:  We will open registration at 7:15 AM and close at 8:00.  Please make any changes to your roster from your smartphone/tablet on the bus that morning.  If you are running behind and will be late, please contact Tournament Manager Bev Diles at 612-201-9651 as soon as possible.  
 
 
Minnesota State High School League Event Info:
Extemp. Reading Prose Stories:  All stories (students cannot repeat a cutting from their preliminary rounds in finals)
Extemp. Reading Poems:  All poems (students cannot repeat a cutting from their preliminary rounds in finals)
Storytelling Stories:  All stories (students cannot repeat a story from their preliminary rounds in finals)

Entry Deadline:  Please submit your initial entries by Monday, February 17, 2020.  Any drops after Wednesday, 2/19/20 at 5 p.m. will be charged a $7 drop fee.  We will be site scheduling the tournament, so please feel free to make changes to your registration up through the morning of the tournament.  For this reason, please be diligent in updating your entries as soon as a change arises.
 
 
Entries:  You may enter as many students as you would like in each event, including double entries(only one draw category please).  Note that if you have more than 7 students in one event they will likely compete with teammates. 
 
 
Fees:  $7.00 per entry.  Please make checks payable to Chaska High School Booster Club.
 
 
Judges:  Please bring one judge for every six (6) entries or fraction thereof.  Uncovered judge slots will cost $80 each.  Please make every effort to provide the required number of judges based on your entries as of the 2/20/19 deadline for drops. 
 
Concessions:  The CHS Booster Club will be selling a variety of refreshments and food starting at 7:30 a.m. for the duration of the tournament.  Students will eat in the commons.   A wonderful breakfast and lunch will be provided for coaches and judges in the judges lounge.
 
 
Busing:  Please drop your students off in the morning at the CHS Activities entrance, entering from either Hundertmark Rd. or Pioneer Trail.  They will be directed to keep all their belongings in the Commons.  Please have your buses park on the other side of the school in our EAST parking lot on Pioneer Trail.
