You are invited to CT2 at Cherokee Trail High School. Our team will offer a competitive and fun tournament on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 and we hope you can attend! CHSAA rules will be followed; specifics are available in the current handbook.

Events:  The following events will be offered: Policy Debate, JV Policy, LD, Congress, PF, DX, IX, DI, HI, Poe, POI, Duo, OO, and Informative. Three preliminary rounds, semis, and finals will be held in all events. (Semis in Speech events will not occur if the section is smaller than 20. Instead, those events will be given a Round 4.)

Registration: All registration will occur on Speechwire.com. Registration will close on Saturday, January 11. Registrations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.  As always, we would appreciate knowing of any drops in advance of the tournament, in order to help the scheduling of rounds.

Judging:  CT will be providing a majority of the judges, and pre-setting each round ahead of time. But please also email the information of any judges you plan to bring with your school so we can add them to Speechwire and include them. Please ask them for their AVAILABILITY (time of day). Eli created a judge training powerpoint and video which is linked in a Onedrive folder here. CLICK HERE. IF JUDGES ARE NOT ENTERED ON SPEECHWIRE OR EMAILED PRIOR TO WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THEY WILL BE USED.

Rules

  • Competition is open to 9-12 grade students representing the school in which they are officially enrolled and doing so with the permission of their school administration and/or coaches.
  • We will use all current NSDA topics in each of the debates.
  • CHSAA rules and event descriptions will be used for CHSAA events.

Doubling Rules:

  • POLICY, PF, and LD Debaters may not double-enter.
  • Students in events may double-enter in two events. Students are responsible for making it to their rounds. Students must pay attention to the schedule because we will not be using a waved system- all events occur in the same time period.
  • Students can only enter one Extemp event.
  • Congressional debaters may not double enter
  • Extempers that double-enter risk losing part of their prep time.
  • Students may not enter in more than two events.

JV/Varsity Policy Rules:

•       Varsity CX Debate is open to all CX debate teams.

•       JV CX debate is limited to freshman and sophomore CX debaters or students in their first year of competition.

•       In JV CX, no Kritiks or counterplans are allowed.

•       In JV CX, we will employ the NFHS Novice case limits, meaning that all teams should limit themselves to the novice cases.

Fees and Payment: The entry fee will be $10.00 per student in events (including Congress) and $20.00 per two-student team entry (Duo, PF, Policy).  Changes in pre-registration will be reflected in the final entry fees if made via Speechwire by January 11. Please make checks payable to CT Speech & Debate.

Awards:  Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to all semifinalists and finalists. Numerous superior and excellent ribbons will be given as awards.

Final Registration/Check in:  Final registration will be from 7:00 to 7:30 AM, with rounds beginning at 8:00 AM. Please plan to arrive at registration early. Schools not registered by 7:30am will be dropped from the tournament. Registration will be outside the Upper Lecture Center (immediately inside the top entrance of the building).

Food: Lunch and munchies will be served to coaches and judges. A complete concession stand will sell pizza, chips, snacks, etc. to students. There are also a handful of fast food restaurants within walking distance and a grocery store.

Miscellaneous Details: Please note that a responsible coach must be present on site with students at all times.  Please also note that Cherry Creek School District bans all use of tobacco by students and adults in or on all school grounds and facilities. The tournament will be located at 25901 E Arapahoe Rd, Aurora, CO 80016.
