Dear Coaches--

Indiana University East would like to cordially invite you to our annual speech tournament to be held on Saturday, December 7th, at 2325 Chester Blvd, Richmond, IN 47374. Registration, ballot drop and pick up, judges' lounge, and student commons area are all in Whitewater Hall which will serve as the tournament home base. Students will be competing in other hall, so they may wish to bring walking shoes and appropriate coats for moving between buildings. Ronnie Swango (ronnieswango@gmail.com) will be managing the tournament.

We will offer all IHSFA speech events. Extemp prep will start at 8:30 with all rounds beginning at 9:00. As of right now, we think we will go 4 straight rounds, but we may switch to 3 rounds and a final depending on if we have the proper amount of schools and clean judges available. Information on the tournament format will be reviewed and solidified soon.

Students may double at their own risk in all events except for discussion. No tripling allowed.

Entries are due on Monday, December 2nd by 5 p.m.

We have a limited amount of rooms available. As a result, there will be an overall entry limit, so if you are planning on attending, please mark that you will attend and submit entries as soon as possible. Currently, the mark is set at 30 but that may change depending on the number of participating schools. If our maximum tournament size has not been reached by the deadline, we may allow already-registered schools to enter additional competitors, but only if room is available. Email Ronnie Swango (address listed below) if you have any additional entry requests on Monday, December 2nd.

Schools must provide 1 judge per 5 entries and fraction thereof. (1-5 entries= 1 judge; 6-10 etnries= 2 judges; 11-15=3; 16-20=4; 21-25=5; 26-30=6)

Discussion topics & Radio prompts are available in the files for download. Discussion topics are not in any particular order. Students will be made aware of which artifact they are discussing at the beginning of each round.

Extemp will draw rounds 1 and 3 only. Round 2 will use round 1 topic and round 4 will use round 3 topic.

Food will be available. More details to follow.

Awards--Ribbons will be given to the top ten in each event and trophies to the top ten schools. IU East scholarships will also be awarded to speakers winning an event.

For questions, please contact Ronnie Swango at ronnieswango@gmail.com
