Start Your Forensics Season in Oshkosh!

The Oshkosh North Forensics Team invites you to the fifth-annual Oshkosh North Forensics Tournament on Saturday, January 18, 2020.  We are the southernmost city in the Fox Valley region hosting a forensics tournament, and our geographic location brings a good cross-section of schools from around the state annually to compete.  Bringing your team to Oshkosh provides them with a rare opportunity to see a mix of competitors and judging that they may not see again until the state tournament in April.

We will offer three rounds of preliminary competition of all standard WFCA events, and if sufficient entries warrant, we will also offer Novice Prose and Poetry competitions (we had enough entries in 2019 to offer robust varsity and novice competitions in both categories).  Since we understand the value of the power round learning experience, we will ensure a power round competition for all categories, even if it serves to only determine whom among the top three will be the day’s champion.  We traditionally have sufficient entries in all categories to offer a full power round in all events.

And speaking of champions, we will be offering trophies to the top three finishers in all events and providing medals to all other finalists.  We will award trophies to the top three teams in three divisions.  We will determine divisions based on entries the week of the tournament.

We are running a WFCA tournament, but we invite both WFCA and WHSFA schools to attend!

ENTRIES:  Teams may enter as many entries as they would like with up to the top 25 counting toward the team score.  Double entries are allowed in all categories, except Radio and Extemp entries may not enter in both categories due to scheduling constraints (but students may enter in one draw and one non-draw category, Radio and Moments, for example).  Triple-entries are not allowed.  Note: Novice Prose/Poetry are only open to students competing in their first year in forensics; not their first year in the category.

RULESWFCA rules will apply in all events.  To accommodate the category differences between WFCA and WHSFA, Public Address competitors may enter as Oratory entries.  We will advise judges not to penalize speeches in Oratory that resemble WHSFA Public Address speeches.  But please note, no chairs in Group Interpretation or the solo acting categories are allowed.  We will also be observing the 10-minute time limit for Group Interpretation and Play Acting.  We will not disqualify students in the speech categories who use notes, regardless if using more than one note card.  However, the use of notes is subject to critique.

JUDGES:  Please provide one qualified judge for every five entries or fraction thereof.  If you are short on judges, you may hire one of our independent extra judges at a rate of $120/judge.  You must provide the number of judges you indicate on your original entry and any additional judges to accommodate any late adds.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  Tuesday, January 14 at 3:00 P.M. via Speechwire.com (click on the Oshkosh North Tournament link).  Coaches should manage drops on Speechwire through 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 17.  Entry fees will apply to any drops after this deadline.

CONFIRMATION:  We will send you a confirmation e-mail the week of the meet.  Each team will need to confirm their entries with us via text by 7:15 A.M. on Saturday morning so we can accommodate any last-minute changes while keeping the tournament on time!  We will only allow day-of adds if competition space and schedule availability allows.

FEES:  $9 per individual entry and $15 for each group entry (Duo, Group Interpretation, and Play Acting) as of your team’s registration on Speechwire through 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 17.  Please make checks payable to Oshkosh North Forensics.  Registration fees will still apply to any entries dropped after 10:00 A.M. on Friday.

FOOD:  We will have complimentary breakfast and lunch items for judges, coaches, and drivers in the hospitality lounge.  The Oshkosh North Booster Club will sell food throughout the day for competitors.

ACCESSIBILITY:  Please let us know if any students or judges require special accessibility needs, and we will be happy to accommodate.

QUESTIONS?:  Contact Mike Wagner at (920) 203-8055 (cell) or oshkoshnorthforensics@gmail.com (note, I likely will not be able to respond to you until after 5:00 P.M. on most days, except the week of the tournament).
