Dear Speech Coaches,

The New Castle High School speech team would like to cordially invite you to our tournament to be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019. Registration will take place from 7:00-7:45 a.m. with extemp draw starting at 8:00 and round one of all events starting at 8:30. All events will go four straight rounds.

FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE--muffins and fruit, etc. for breakfast and pasta, soups, salads, etc. for lunch. After attending two sessions dealing with poverty and service at the IHSFA conference, we have decided not to charge for meals. We hope to have our team members, school staff, and community make donations to provide for this.

Registration is on speechwire.com. Please confirm attendance by November 15 by checking if your school will or will not attend. Entries are due by Thursday, November 21, 3:30 p.m.

Bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction thereof. Six entries equals two judges. Max of 40 entries per team and 5 entries per event for each team.

Students may double at their own risk in all events EXCEPT discussion.

Events offered: all IHSFA speech events plus versatility.

Versatility students will compete in poetry, prose, or POI round one; original oratory or informative round two; humor or drama round three; and impromptu round four. Students may use material from last year for ONE of the rounds of versatility, but the other two prepared rounds must be new material for this season. Points will be scored by individual round results as well as overall results. (Individual rounds will score 3, 2, 1, and ½ .) Versatility is limited to one person per team with a maximum of 6 entries. If you want a versatility spot reserved, email me at sdelay@ncweb.me and give me your school name and enter the name of the student who will be competing in versatility on speechwire. Once the six slots are claimed, the event will be filled.

Students need to write this before the tournament and bring it ready to perform. Round three will be 2-minute on the spot with 2-minute prep at the tournament.

Discussion will use the Socratic Seminar format and topics will be released the Monday prior to the tournament through speechwire.
