Hathaway Brown Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Ohio. View manager contact information Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the speech and debate programs at Hathaway Brown and John Carroll University, we are proud to welcome you to Shaker Heights. We are pleased to offer competition in all OSDA events, Big Questions Debate, OSDA Middle school events, and middle school extemp. Because we are using both campuses, we anticipate allowing an unlimited number of entries in every event. To be safe, we will begin with 6 in every event and place any overflow on the waitlist, with the expectation that once we see attendance, we will likely be able to accommodate more. All registration will take place at HB from 8:00-8:30am. The current plan is for speech events to take place at JCU and debate to be at HB, but this could change depending on registration. Home base for the JCU part of the tournament will be in the O’Malley Center, attached to the Administration building at JCU (think bell tower). You are responsible to dropping off students at the competition site in the morning, and we are hoping to start competition at 8:45am. A shuttle will bring the competitors at HB over to JCU for awards at Kulas Auditorium around 3:45pm. Buses should park at JCU during the day.
We will guarantee 4 rounds of IE, 3 rounds of policy and middle school competition, and 4 rounds of LD and PF, with a 4th round of middle school and a 5th round of LD/PF possible if we have enough rooms. Speech double entries are permitted except for extemp.
Congress results will be based on judge's preference, and HS competitors will use the OSDA docket for January 18th. MS Congress will debate bills- 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 from the OSDA Middle School docket. MS PF will likely debate the OSDA MS PF topic. All other debates will use the appropriate NSDA topics for January 2020
A variety of lunch options will be offered to students. We will do our best to accommodate special dietary needs, but please feel free to bring your own food if you feel the need.
