We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus. If you have any questions regarding the tournament, directions, or hotels please reach out. See you in January!

Event Caps:
You can only enter 8 students per event with a maximum entry of 60 slots per school.

Tournament Structure:
3 prelim rounds and 1 final round. Novice and varsity will compete together in prelims. Unless a novice advances to the varsity final round, the top six novices will be placed into a novice final (when warranted).

Entry Fees:
To offset the cost of the tournament, each slot will cost $3.  We will accept cash or checks. Checks can be made out to Ball State University.

Radio:
Round 1: 5 minutes News program (including music lead-in and load out and commercial of students choice)
Prepared before the tournament

Round 2: 2 minutes On the Spot
Students will receive a picture (with caption) and will receive 2 minutes of prep time

Written on site (30 minutes to prep)
**Note on final round:
Contestants will be given a packet of source materials and will have 30 minutes to select and organize a five minute simulated radio broadcast. All material used in the broadcast will be provided by the tournament with the exception of any hypothetical station call letters, time and current weather conditions or forecast and no more than one commercial (maximum 30 seconds). Contestants should strive to present a broadcast that resembles a live radio news segment and refrain from humorous devices (like the traffic girl falling out of the traffic copter or Bigfoot rampaging through town, etc). Maximum time limit for the speech is five minutes.

Extemp:
Students will draw for rounds 1 & 3. (Students will use round 1 question for round 2 and the final round speech is at their discretion)

Congress:
Bills 15,12,4, & 5

Double Entry:
Students may enter two events with the exception of Discussion and Congress.  In Duo, both contestants may double; however, any given student may not participate in two duos.   Those students doubled in Impromptu must go to Impromptu last.  Double-entered students are responsible for getting to both events during rounds.  While judges will be made aware of double entered students on their ballots, students should still inform their judges that they are double entered.

Tie Breakers:
Judges will score students using both speaker points and ranks. Speaker points will be used to break final placings.

We will have awards for the top six in all events (varsity and novice). Sweepstakes trophies are awarded based on final round placings.  Team Trophies will be given to the top 3 in small and large team entries (based on team entry size at noon on Friday, January 17).
