Colleagues,

The Ball State University Speech Team is pleased to invite you to the Cardinal Clash on Sunday, January 20, 2018.  This tournament will be held in conjunction with Butler University’s Bulldog Battle.  Both tournaments will take place on the Butler University campus in Indianapolis, the Crossroads of America.  The campus is just four hours from Ann Arbor and St. Louis, three hours from Chicago, Columbus (OH), and Lexington (KY), and two hours from Louisville and Cincinnati.

The Cardinal Clash will offer competition in all NFA individual events on Sunday. For Impromptu we will use a variety of prompts such as quotations, proverbs, questions, and words.  Tabulation and event rules will follow NFA guidelines.

We look forward to welcoming you and your students to the Cardinal Clash.  We hope to see you in January!

Registration and Information

1. Each school may enter an unlimited number of entries per event.
2. Each competitor may enter a total of four events.
3. This year we will be using Speechwire for registration.  If you have any issues registering please contact Mary Moore (bsuspeech@bsu.edu).

Fees

1. A fee of $8 will be charged for each individual event entry.
2. One judge is needed for every six entries or any fraction thereof. A fee of $10 will be charged for each uncovered entry.  (7 entries = 2 judges or one judge and $12)
3. Fees will be calculated at 12:00pm (EST) on Wednesday January 16, 2019.  Each dropped entry will incur a cost of $10 if dropped after 12:00 pm (EST) Wednesday, January 16, 2019.  The cost will increase to $15 if dropped after 5:00 pm (EST) on Thursday January 17, 2019.
4. Each dropped judge after 5:00PM (EST) on Friday, January 18, 2019 will incur a cost of $100. (You can change judge names at no cost.)
5. Checks should be made out to Ball State University.

Awards

1. Awards will be given to the top three schools in team sweepstakes, finalists in all events and the top three in quadrathon.
2. To qualify for quadrathon, a competitor must compete in four events.
3. Sweepstakes (both team and quad) placings will be based on final round points.

For the past five years, this tournament has been small. As such, we thought it would be a good tournament to try a collapsed tournament schedule (no flights). If the tournament is larger this year, we will most likely return to a schedule that has the events in two flights. Students may enter a maximum of four events.
