2019 IOWA SWING INVITATION

Greetings!

The University of Northern Iowa and Simpson College look forward to hosting you at the Iowa Swing! Simpson will host the Storm Invitational on Saturday, January 19, and UNI will host the Bill Henderson Invitational on Sunday, January 20. Both tournaments will be held at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

The Iowa Swing offers competition in all 11 AFA events on both days and, in addition to IE’s, Novice and Open Parli debate will be offered Saturday. Entries for both days must be submitted on Speechwire on Tuesday, January 15, by 5 p.m. DEBATE ENTRIES SHOULD BE EMAILED DIRECTLY TO spencer.waugh@simpson.edu on the same deadline. If you are interested in parli debate, it is helpful to let Spencer know the week prior that you are coming, even if you do not know your exact entry until January 15.

Please let us know if you have any questions! We would love to see you in January!

Interstate Oratory Round: Sunday, we will run a Persuasion round for Iowa students to qualify for Interstate.

AWARDS: The top 6 contestants in each event will advance to finals and receive awards, unless there are fewer than 12 entries in the event or tie-breaking constraints require a different number of finalists. The top 3 individual sweeps entries will receive awards based on points from prelims and finals. Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top 3 teams on each day of competition.
