Hello,

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and its alumni would like to invite you the 1^st ever Harvest Festival Swing to be held on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus in Lincoln, NE November 3rd-4^th, 2018 for a weekend of educational and competitive fun. The theme of the tournament will pull from TV Show Parks & Rec, with special attention to season 3’s Harvest Festival story arc.  We may not have funnel cakes or corn mazes, but we have bagels for breakfast, themed impromptu quotations, and perhaps even a visit from America’s favorite mini-horse, Li’l Sebastian.   We have not heard whether Larry Bird’s Aunt Tilda will be able to make it to sign autographs at awards, but our fingers are crossed.  Saturday, University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be hosting a 2/1 IE tournament and Sunday, the UNL Alumni will be hosting a 2/1 IE tournament.  All information and Registration can be found on www.speechwire.com  For more information please contact University of Nebraska Lincoln Director of Speech and Debate Aaron Duncan aduncan3@unl.edu 402-450-7830 or Associate Director of Speech & Debate Allison Bonander, (402) 690-8152, allisonbonander@gmail.com

Judges Code of Ethics:

We believe it is important to create a positive educational environment for all students participating at the tournament.  Any judge found to be making comments on ballots that are deemed to be racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory by the tournament director will be removed from the judging pool immediately.  It is also our expectation that all judges make supportive comments and do use not use overly penal speaker points.  If judges are found to be engaging in those behaviors, they will be asked to change immediately or be removed from the judging pool.  Any schools that have judges removed from the pool will be charged for uncovered slot fees.

Individual Events:

-No student may enter more than three (3) events per flight.

-Finalists will advance based on lowest cumulative rank, then highest cumulative rating points, then highest reciprocal.

-First place will be awarded to the competitor with the lowest cumulative rank.  Ties in finals will be broken first on predominance of 1’s, second judge’s preference, and finally rating points.  Ties in team points and individual sweepstakes will be broken on numbers of finals followed by number of 1, 2, 3’s.  Individual sweepstakes is open to any competitor who has four or more events.

Tournament Schedule (Same for both days):

We will send out an information packet the week of the tournament with food options and information regarding important rooms, including judges’ lounge and extemp draw.

Entry/Fees:

Where: All entries should be submitted through speechwire.com.

Deadline: Entries should be submitted through speechwire.com no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 30^th . Any entries dropped on or after Thursday November 1^st will be assessed a $5 dollar per entry fee.

Individual Events: The charge will be $8 per entry. 1 judge covers 6 entries. Uncovered slots will be assessed a fee of $12 per entry. Judges must be available through the final rounds. Any entries dropped on or after Thursday October 6^th will be assessed a $5 dollar per entry fee.

Awards:

Individual Events:

Awards will be given to all finalists. Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top three schools, and to the top three individual speakers overall in individual sweeps. For individuals to be eligible for individual sweeps, they must compete in four I.E.’s. Sweepstakes totals will include all points accrued in 4 or more events the student is competing in.

Sweepstakes Formula:

IE Preliminary Rounds – 1^st  - 3, 2^nd - 2, 3^rd - 1.

IE Finalists 1^st -12, 2^nd - 10, 3^rd - 8, 4^th - 6, 5^th - 4, 6^th - 2.

IE Non-advancing Semifinalists - 1.
