Greeting Coaches!

We would love to have you join us once again for a weekend of Novice competition.  We will be hosting our annual Novice Invitational Tournament this November 17^th, at West Chicago Community High School. This tournament is for first-year speakers only, not second or third-year speakers doing an event for the first time.  Our happy little competition will have three prelim rounds and no final.  Prelim Round Ranks will determine award standings.  Ideally, the tournament will be completed shortly after 2:00 pm.  The exact schedule is included but as always, subject to change up until the day of the competition.  I will keep you posted if that were to happen.  This tournament is an excellent opportunity for teams that have no place to send their new competitors or who want to get another rep in to engage in some friendly, novice, early season competition.  I would like to open this up to any team wishing to participate and cap novice entries at two per event.  I need to make sure that there is the interest and numbers before I can grant larger programs the third entry.  You can request but no promises until we are closer to the actual date.  So, please enter your acceptance and numbers as soon as you can.  Rest assured, you will be greeted warmly, treated royally and be involved in some good novice competition.  Have buses drop you off at and enter through door “H” on the south-east corner of the school to avoid traffic with other athletic events that may be happening that day.  Schedule, Entry Fees and Expectations are as follows:

RULES:

FIRST YEAR SPEAKERS ONLY!!!...  (Please Follow this rule!  It REALLY irks me when teams try to "sneak" in second-year speakers.)

IMPROMPTU: Prompts will consist of Quotations, Phrases, and Proverbs.

EXTEMP: Students will prepare once for the day and use that speech for all rounds.  Competitors will have 30 minutes of preparation time.

RADIO: All three rounds will use a radio script prepared at home.  Remember to include news, sports, and weather, along with a commercial spot.  News should be no more than 24 hours old.  Competitors should bring their materials for timing their broadcast.
