Dear Coaches & Competitors,

It is our pleasure to invite you and your team to the 19th Annual Star Invitational to be held November 16th and 17th at the Deerwood Center of Florida State College at Jacksonville!

Whether you have been to one, several, or all of the previous Star Tournaments, we hope you

will return and help us celebrate 19 years of “stellar” forensics competition. If you've never

been to The Star, we hope you will become part of our galaxy and join us for some great

competition. We promise to uphold our philosophy of providing a well-run, enjoyable

tournament for all.

Here are some reasons to get pulled into The Star's orbit:

We include all eleven AFA Individual Events and Readers Theatre and we give away

CASH! This year we will continue to offer the following awards at the tournament:

  • The Samuel Jackson Pentathlon Award will be awarded to the top Pentathlon

competitor. This $200 cash award is just the motivation for your students to get

all those new events ready.

  • The Richard O’Bryant After Dinner Speaking Award will be awarded to the top

ADS competitor at the tournament. This is a $100 cash award.

  • The Norm Will Poetry Interpretation Award will be awarded to the top Poetry

competitor at the tournament. This is a $100 cash award.

  • Finally, in honor of his years of devotion and service to forensics at our college,

we will continue to offer the Charles Smires Quality Award. While this is not a

cash award, this team award will go to the team that earns the greatest average

number of sweepstakes points per individual events slot. It is an appropriate

indicator of the quality Dean Smires valued in the teams he coached throughout

his years in Jacksonville.

Please note that we’ve changed the location of this year’s tournament.  We believe the new digs will add comfort and efficiency.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you at the

Star!

Sincerely,
