Jefferson High School Speech Team enthusiastically invites you to the 6th Annual Top of the State Speech Tournament on January 26th, 2019.

 

The tournament will offer two flighted rounds of preliminary competition in all fourteen IHSA events. We will also continue the traditional three extra events: Improvised Duet Acting, Original Verse, and Wretched Interpretation.   Due to the large number of teams last year, we will be limiting teams to 3 entries per extra event.  The traditional 14 events will be uncapped.

 

There will be two preparations for Radio and Extemp during the preliminary rounds,with one additional prep for finals. Finals and Next-In finals will be held.

 

Awards will be given to finalists in each event (Novice, Varsity, and Next-in). Sweepstakes awards will be given to the top three schools. In addition, we also award the top three "small team division" schools; defined as 24 entries or less.

 

A student may enter up to THREE events IF one of those events are one of our extra events (IDA, OV, WI), otherwise only two events per competitor please. Remember students are responsible for getting to each event in the hour and a half round.

 

Entry fee for each team will be $150.00 per team for up to 36 entries, $200.00 for teams with 37+

 

A team must bring one judge per six entries. (If your team has 48 entries, you must bring 8 judges.) 

 

The tournament will start with registration at 7:00 am, first round prep 7:45 am and round one at 8:30 am. 

 

Special Note: This year we will be offering tournament T-Shirts for sale on site.  We're still working on the design, but will let you know as soon as we have it and all teams will be listed on the back that registered in advance.  We do hope you will encourage your students to consider purchaing one, as all profits will be going to one of our team who is missing her senior year with us while she undergoes cancer treatments.  Thank you for your consideration.
