Welcome to the First Annual Broward County Elementary Debate Championship Tournament!

 

You are all breaking new ground in the Speech and Debate community!

 

The tournament will take place on Saturday, May 5th, from 8:00am-3:30pm at Nova High School (thanks Courtney Chipman, Jon Williamson, and the Nova Students/Parents)! 

 

This tournament is the opportunity for all of our Broward County Debate Teams to show what they've been working on all year! Anyone from your team can compete, but this is their opportunity to show off a year's-worth of hard work, so make sure they're well prepared!

 

Registration will close on Tuesday, May 1st at 5pm. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 12pm on Friday, May 4th. Any hidden drops will result in your school being fined $25 per drop. You will be able to make your own changes until 12pm on that Friday. Any changes after that, please text Megan West: 940.206.3806 or Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event.

 

You need to provide 1 judge for every 5 students for this event. Parents of the students, administrators, and teachers are a great place to start asking for judges!

 

Transportation will be provided by the Applied Learning Department. Buses will pick-up students at their home schools between 7:30 and 8:00am and take them to Nova High School. All attendees will report directly to the Auditorium upon arrival.  Coaches will need to check-in at the "registration desk" in front of the auditorium, and then monitor their students. After all schools have checked in, students will be released to report to their rounds. Round 1 is scheduled for 9:00am, Round 2 is scheduled for 10:30am, Round 3 is scheduled for 12:00pm, and the Final Round will begin at 1:30pm. Congress will have two sessions from 9:00am-10:30am and 10:45am-12:15pm. The Final Round of Congress will go from 12:45pm-2:30pm. Awards will be in the Auditorium around 3:00pm. Lunch will be served and there will be a concession stand (students will have to eat in the cafeteria). Buses will pick up at Nova High School at 3:30pm.

 

Please encourage parents not to attend rounds as it creates a crowded, chaotic environment for our competitors. Instead, encourage them to celebrate their students at the awards ceremony after the tournament!

 

Congress legislation will be emailed directly to all coaches. It can also be found on this website under "Files for Download". Please let Justin Weaver know ASAP if you need the legislation re-sent to you.
