I would like to invite everyone to the 1st Annual Glades Middle School middle school debate invitational on March 10, 2018.
 
Where: Glades Middle School 16700 SW 48th Court, Miramar, FL 33027
 
Registration: Registration and lunch for each student is $15.
 
Events: We will be offering: 4 rounds of Big Question Debate, 2 rounds of Congress with a super session, 3 rounds of Policy Debate. All other Debate and Speech Categories (PF, LD, EXT, OO, OI DEC, DUO, DI, HI, IMP) will have 4 rounds.
 
Event-Sign Up: 5 per speech and debate events and 10 for Congress. We will have a wait list.
 
Topics: We will use March topics in all Debate events. All topics can be found at speechanddebate.org
 
Congress Legislation: If you have entries in Congress, you must submit at least one piece of legislation for debate by Monday, 2/26/18. Legislation will then be sent to everyone on Tuesday, 2/27/18. Please submit all legislation by Monday, the 26th to christine.mcmahon@browardschools.com
 
Extemp and Impromptu topic areas will be released on Monday, March 5th.
 
Deadlines: Registration for new entries will close on Tuesday, March 6th, at 5:00pm. Entry fees will be frozen at that time. If you need to make drops or name changes you will have until noon on Friday, March 9th. Any drops after that time will incur a $10 fee. Please make any changes by March 9th at noon!
 
Judges: Each school is required to provide 1 judge for every 5 students entered in a speech or congress event and 1 judge for every 2 students in a debate event. Schools who do not provide enough judges will be charged a fee. Please make sure you have the judges required to help make this event run smoothly.
 
Food: Students will be offered 4 choices from Subway for lunch: Turkey, Roast Beef, Veggie, or Ham. Lunch will include chips, a cookie, and a drink. You can choose your meal option on speechwire when you register.
 
We will have concessions for sale all day as well.
 
Judges/coaches meals are $7. You can order them on speechwire with your entries. Please do not forget to order lunch for your judges and yourself!
 
We will have snacks and drinks all for the judges in the judge’s lounge.
 
Awards: Each champion of their event will receive a trophy, 2nd place will receive a plaque, and 3rd through 5th place will receive medals. We will also have a trophy for the overall team champion.  
 
Tentative Time Schedule:
 
Team Arrivals: 7:00 am - 7:40 am
West entrance bus loop
Team and Judge Registration: 7:00 am - 7:40am 
Cafeteria
Judges Meeting: 7:40 am
Media Center.
Lunch: 11:30 am -1:00 pm
Cafeteria
Awards Ceremony: 4:30 pm
Cafeteria
Dismissal: by or before 5:00 pm.
Miscellaneous Info:
 
Please have all judges, parents, coaches, etc. park in the west parking lot (bus loop)
 
Judges should report to the media center when they arrive.
 
Checks should be made out to Glades Middle School and can be ponied (preferred) or brought to the tournament.
