6th Annual Invitational Speech Tournament

Location: Joint campus of IUPUC and Ivy Tech (for online map reference, please use 4555 Central Ave., Columbus, IN 47203)

Time: First round starts 8:30am (extemp prep at 8am).

Format: Four straight rounds of competition

Events: Broadcasting, Congress, Discussion, Dramatic, Duo, Humorous, Impromptu, Informative, IX, Original Oratory, Original Performance, Prose, Poetry, POI, and USX.

Doubling: Permitted in all events except for Discussion.

Discussion: Artifacts will be released one week prior to the meet. They can be found in the “Files to Download” section of SpeechWire. There will be no prep time prior to the start of the round.

Congress: Debate bills 3, 6, 12, and 14.

Broadcasting: Rounds 1-3—five minute newscast with commercial, music intros/outros of contestant’s choosing; Rd. 4—OTS (2-min prep, 2 min deliver). Commercial prompt will be released one week prior to tournament.

Extemp: Draw rounds 1 and 3, 30 minutes prep.

Each school is allowed 5 entries per event. UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE (11/1/17): There will be novice and varsity divisions at this tournament! Novice competitors are first-year competitors or competitors with 25 or fewer NSDA points. Team entries will be capped at 40 per school. Overall cap for the tournament will be 300 entries total. Single teams only--no non-sweeps teams. We are doing this primarily because there aren’t many spaces available to congregate in large groups on the campus.

Judges: Please provide one (1) judge for every 5 (seven) entries or fraction thereof. IUPUC and Ivy Tech will offer a pool of judges, but we will prioritize judges from schools first.

Trophies will be awarded to the top ten teams, and ribbons to the top ten contestants in each event. Ribbons will be given to both top varsity and novice in each event. We will run novice and varsity rounds concurrently where necessary based on space restrictions.

This meet will take place in three or four campus buildings—we encourage that your students wear comfortable shoes. Please make sure your teams are in authorized areas throughout the day.

Concessions will be available throughout the day. Fast food or restaurants of any kind are 2-5 miles away, so please avail yourselves of our concessions to help us offset the costs of our meet.

The meet will be managed through SpeechWire. Team registrations are due by Tuesday, November 14, at 5pm.
