Steve Kirkpatrick Memorial Speech Tournament

Concord High School--January 13, 2018

The Concord High School Speech Team invites you to our annual speech tournament.  We will offer all 14 IHSFA speech events and follow IHSFA rules, unless otherwise specified. Please make sure to read through all of the following information carefully. It will be a full day of competition.

NE & NW District Congress Registration: 7:00-7:45am in front of the media center.  Seating and first session starts at 8:15am. Both District’s registrations are via tabroom.com

Speech Meet Information

Speech Registration: 7:15-8:00am in front of the Media Center. Extemp Prep starts at 8:15am with round 1 in all events starting at 8:45am

Entries: Varsity division with a maximum of 6 per event.

Judges: Please bring 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction (6 entries=2 judges). The head coach is

expected to judge and be listed as the 1st judge on the entry.

Doubling: All events are allowed to double with the following exceptions:

1. Discussion is NOT allowed to double.

2. Extempers MUST go to extemp first and then go to their second event.

3. Duo partners may double in another duo (OP Duo; Duo) as long as they are doubling with their partner.

4. Broadcasting doublers MUST go to Broadcasting first (unless they’re in extemp).

Events:

• All events will go 3 rounds, with a Final round of 6 and an Honors Final with the next 6 placers.

• Broadcasting:

  • Round 1 and the Final Round will be a 5 minute news program. Information for the commercial and music copy will be available for download Monday, January 8th after 5pm EDT.

  • Round 2--Students should bring a 2 minute editorial on the role of celebrities in political protest.

  • Round 3--On-the-Spot

• Extemp:  Draw Rounds 1 & 3. Round 3 topic for Final.

• Discussion:  Artifacts will be available for download on Monday, January 8th after 5pm.

Food: Will be available all day.  Please remember that as the cost to hosting a tournament increases, your support through purchasing food at the tournament is greatly appreciated.

Awards: Top 3 finishers in each event will earn sweep for your team.  Ribbons for all finalists (Honor and Top 6) as well as trophies for the top 5 teams.

Deadline: Registration is due on Speechwire by Tuesday, January 9th at 8:00pm(EDT).
