LOGANSPORT HIGH SCHOOL is pleased to invite you to attend the Speaking of Love Speech Tournament on Saturday, February 10, 2018. TEAM REGISTRATION: The deadline for the registration form is Tuesday, February 6 by 3:00 pm. Please register on Speechwire. I will send a final confirmation after all entries have been received.

 

SCHEDULE:

  • Registration begins at 7:00am.
  • Most rounds will run at 8:00, 9:30, 11:00, & FINALS close to 1:00. Some will be flighted to accommodate doublers.

 

EVENTS: The tournament will offer all IHSFA events: Drama, Humor, Duo, Poetry, Prose, Original Performance, Original Oratory, U.S. Extemp, Int’l Extemp, Impromptu, Broadcasting, Discussion, Informative and Programmed Oral Interp. ** This is also the host site for Heartland and District Congress.

 

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR BENEVOLENCE: Our team has much to be thankful for and we would like to take the opportunity to share our gratitude. Here’s where you come in: we are asking for your assistance in stocking our local food pantry! Please provide 2 items from our supply list per entry. These items will be distributed to our local mission center and our very own Berry Pantry for students who are in need. If each entry equals two items, just think of the far-reaching impact our speech tournament would have. The team with the most donations will receive our benevolence award!

NEEDED ITEMS:

  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • deodorant

 

  • peanut butter
  • ramen noodles
  • new plain t-shirts
  • New crew and ankle socks

 

RULES:

Teams may enter a maximum of 48 entries with a limit of 6 students in each event. Additional non-sweeps entries will not be accepted. Teams may NOT enter a second non-sweeps team. Tournament will be capped at 400 entries due to classroom availability.

 

CONTESTANTS may double at their own risk in all events. Rounds will not be re-run if a student misses a round and did not communicate with the judge prior to doubling.

  •    Discussion, Extemp, and Broadcasting MAY double at their own risk.
  •    Duo partners may double in other duo events. 
  •    NO tripling.
  •    No drops will be picked up.
  •    All events will go 3 preliminary rounds, with a Next-In and a Final.
  •    FINALS will be clean slate.
  •    Extemp draw will be 1st and 3rd round. 3rd round draw will be used for FINAL Rd.

 

BROADCASTING:

  • Round 1:  News program (music topics and commercial materials posted on Speechwire on Monday, February 5) 5 min. overall performance
  • Round 2:  Editorial (topic provided at tournament) speak for 2 mins
  • Round 3:  OTS (current event)
  • Round 4:  News program again

 

DISCUSSION will use Socratic Seminar format. Stimuli will be provided on Monday, February 5.

 

JUDGES: Each team will provide 1 judge for every 5 entries or fraction thereof. That means 6 entries = 2 judges.

 

CONCESSIONS: Food and beverages will be available throughout the tournament from 7:30am-1:30pm. Please support our program and dine with us! Additionally, we will serve judges, coaches and drivers in our courtesy lounge.

 

AWARDS: The top six places in each event will receive ribbons and earn sweepstakes points, 6 down. Depending on tournament size, we may offer a Next-In final round for students. This will be determined after entries have been declared. We will offer 8 team trophies.

 

ESTIMATED TIME OF AWARDS: 3:30p.m. With your help, we will run a timely awards session and get you home as soon as we can.

 

PARKING AND ENTRANCE:                                      

Please park on the north side of the school.  Your team may enter the building using Door 5. Registration will take place in G-121, down the first hallway after you enter through Door 5.

 

ARRIVAL AND FOUL WEATHER DELAYS: Should inclement weather cause us to delay the start of the tournament or cancel it entirely, we will contact you via the contact number you provide in the registration by 5:30 a.m.
