MDL Challenge Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Wisconsin. View manager contact information
Hello all,
Welcome to the 2018 MDL Challenge Tournament! We will be offering Middle School, Novice HS, and Varsity HS divisions. Students can debate as mavericks (by themselves) and win. Please have one judge for every two entries you are bringing and if finding judges is a problem, let me know ASAP. Registration deadline is Thursday the 25th at 9pm. PLEASE email Stephanie anyone you'd like to add to the tournament after this point. We will also be offering LD and PF at the high school level if there is enough interest. LD/PF will follow the Middle School tournament schedule with Round 5 to follow after Round 4.
High school is debating the Education topic. In Novice, we are following the WDCA rules (please ask if there are questions!). In Varsity, there are no restrictions but affirmatives must be disclosed via the dropbox folder or to Stephanie by Tuesday the 23rd at 9pm. Any disclosures after this point require the team to either run the novice packet affirmatives or provide a case negative against themselves to Stephanie.
Middle school is also debating the Education topic. All the allowed evidence is located on the MDL website and has been emailed out to coaches.
Any dietary restrictions should be communicated ASAP to Stephanie.
Please note-this is a Challenge Tournament Format, which will hopefully be fun for the kids. Round 1 is randomized. After that, the students competing in that division will be laid out in order of the tie breakers. Students at the bottom of the list can choose anyone above them to compete against. The team chosen gets to select what side they will compete on. Appleton East HS utilizes this format every year and it's a blast. It does require everyone to regroup after every round, but more details regarding rooms and meeting spaces will be released the week of the tournament.
