Dear Speech Coach:

The Munster Speech Meet will be held on Saturday, November 4. We will be offering competition in both the novice and varsity categories.  A novice is defined as a student that is competing in Speech for their first year or has less than 75 points. Preliminary registration is due on Monday, October 30 by 5:00 P.M, CST.  Registration will be from 6:45-7:15 in the Media Center.  Extemp draw will start at 7:30 CST and rounds will begin at 8:00 AM.

You may enter a maximum of 4 entries per event for Team A. Team A is capped at 40 entries. However, non-sweeps will only be offered depending on room availability. If you are planning on bringing a non-sweeps team, it is important to communicate your request early. Sweepstakes awards will be based on your Sweepstakes team, consisting of up to 40 Entries.  Teams entering more than 40 entries must designate the sweepstakes entries on Speechwire. Speechwire is set up to allow the sweep entries to be Team A and the non-sweep entries to be Team B.   Three rounds and a final will be run in all events.

***THERE WILL BE NO ADDED ENTRIES ON TOURNAMENT DAY****  - We appreciate you honoring this rule.

Please bring one qualified judge, willing to write informative critiques, for every five entries or fraction thereof.  All judges are obligated to stay until all final rounds start.

Double Entering: Contestants may double, and only three students may triple at their own risk (Only two events of the three may count towards sweepstakes). If you are a Discussion contestant, you will not be eligible to double enter.  Extempers may double only in Impromptu, Informative, and Oratory.  Both duo partners (OP Duos included) may double. If you are doubling in two partner events, you must double only with the same partner for both events.

Radio: Radio contestants should bring a current 5-minute newscast (music lead-in, commercial, etc) a 2-minute editorial concerning the President's controversy with Russia. On the Spot (2 min prep, 2 min speak) and the final round will be the Newscast (Round 1) repeated.  Specific information regarding the music lead-in and commercial will be provided on Monday, October 30.

Extemp: Extemp topics will be taken from current events.  Extempers will draw for Rounds 1 & 3.  Thirty minutes prep time.  The Round 3 topic will be used for the final round.  All extempers are to report to the Resource Lab  by 7:15.

Discussion: The discussion prompt will be communicated by Monday, October 30.  The questions will be provided at the tournament.

Awards will be given to the top eight individuals in all events. An Individual Sweeps award will be given to the top three students.  To become eligible for individual sweeps, students must enter three events. Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top five schools.  Munster will not compete for team awards.

Lunch will be served in the Food Court.  Plan to eat here since there are no close restaurants.  We look forward to seeing you on the 11th.
Because of security concerns, students are asked to not enter a competition room until the judge is present.

Important: Please make sure to text any drops you have by 6:30 AM on Saturday morning at 219-218-1085. We prefer texting over phone calls.   There will not be any drops to pick up on the day of the tournament.
We look forward to a meaningful experience.

Sincerely,
