We are excited about our Platteview “Trojan Horse” Speech Invitational. This letter should answer all of your questions about the contest. We look forward to seeing you on March 4th, 2017!

RSVP: As this is our first meet, we would greatly appreciate if you could mark on SpeechWire if you are planning to attend so that we can start getting an accurate count. Currently, the meet will be set to “open”, but we only have so many rooms, so please sign up as soon as you are able!

ENTRIES: Contestants are allowed to triple enter, but please keep in mind students will be on a tight schedule.

We will run all nine NSAA events. Registration: Deadline for entries is SUNDAY, FEB 26th. Drops will be accepted until noon FRIDAY, March 3rd; however, drops after WEDNESDAY, March 1st will NOT reduce your entry fee. The day of the tournament drops need to be emailed by 7am to nhorner@springfieldplatteview.org. Competition will begin at 8:00am.

ROUNDS: We will run two preliminary rounds plus finals for the top six individuals, five duets, and five OIDs.

(NO FINALS IN ANY EVENT WITH LESS THAN 15 ENTRIES)—FINALS WILL HAVE TWO JUDGES. Preliminary round ties will be broken by rank and then rating points. No Novice/Varsity differentiation.

JUDGES: Each school must provide one judge for every six entries. All uncovered entries will incur a $15 charge per uncovered entry. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE JUDGES YOU INTEND TO BRING TO THE MEET—IF YOU DO NOT ARRIVE WITH THE NUMBER OF JUDGES THAT YOU SPECIFIED IN YOUR ENTRY, YOU WILL BE BILLED ACCORDINGLY.

FEES: Entry fees will be $7.00 for individual and group events. We will not refund any fees for drops after Wednesday, March 1st or charge for any substitutes. We will not accept any adds the day of the tournament.

MEDALS: medals will be awarded for 1st-6th in each individual event and 1st-5th place in group events. We will also give a plaque to the runner up and winner of the team sweeps.

HOMEROOM/CAMPSITE: Homeroom/Campsite will be located in the front gym near the office (in the middle of the school). Please no radios, CD players, iHomes, food, or drink in that area.

CONCESSIONS: There will be a concession stand throughout the day. The concession stand will be located in the New Commons on the EAST side of the hallway that down the center of the school (it is very close to the campsite). Students must keep food in this area. No food will be allowed in the classrooms. Coaches and judges will be provided breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, which will be the judges’/coaches’ lounge.

COURTESY: We would like all competitors to remain in speech rounds until they are over to provide a courteous audience for all speakers. The only exception is if a contestant is double entered. Please remind students to be quiet when traveling through the halls. At the request of our administration, when a round has ended, we ask that the judges turn off the classroom lights and shut the door to the room. There will be a sign to post on the door knob that will instruct students to wait until a judge has opened the room to enter.
