Dear Speech Coach:
 
The Thornridge High School Speech Department invites you to attend our annual TRee TOURNAMENT Saturday, December 3, 2016.  This Invitational Speech Tournament will consist of 3 preliminary rounds and a final round.  We will be following IHSA rules including preparation rounds for both extemporaneous speaking and radio.  All fourteen events will be offered.  You may enter 2 students per event. Additional teams may be entered for an additional tournament fee.
 
In keeping with the holiday spirit, the TRee TOURNAMENT will award a Tree and a Plaque to the top 5 schools placing in the TRee TOURNAMENT. Individual student finalists will receive medals.

Entry Fee:
$125.00 � Please make checks payable to Thornridge Speech Team. If you bring a double team, please send $200.00.
 
Number of Entries:
You may enter 2 contestants per event.  Thornridge has taken
the host school�s privilege of entering students on additional teams.  If you would like to enter an additional team and if we have enough space, we will attempt to accommodate you for an additional fee and judges as needed. Larger teams require more judges.
 
Judges:
You will need to bring the following number of judges:
 
1 judge =  1-6 entries
2 judges = 7-12 entries
3 judges = 13-20 entries
4 judges = 21-26 entries
5 judges = 27-32 entries
6 judges = 33-38 entries
 
You are responsible for the number of judges based on your original entry.  Drops on tournament day will not decrease your number of judging assignments.  Double teams will require additional judges. On the day of the tournament, if you do not have enough judges, you will be charged an additional fee of $90.00 per judge that you�re are missing.

Scoring: Your top two speakers in an event in the Prelim Rounds will count toward the Sweepstakes Awards.  Prelim round scoring will be done in the following manner:
 
First place �  6 points
        Second place � 5 points                                
        Third place �  4 points
        Fourth place � 3 points
        Fifth place �  2 points
        Sixth place �  1 point
Awards
Championship medals will be awarded to all contestants in the final round.  All ties will be broken.  The top five schools in preliminary round points will receive trophies and Trees.
 
Concessions:
Lunch will be available in the cafeteria�The usual stuff!  There are also several fast food restaurants nearby.   If you choose to leave campus please be reminded that you must still be on time for the final judging, etc.
 
Rules:
We are following IHSA rules for all events with the following exceptions:
 
RADIO � Radio speakers will have one 45-minute prep period.  That script will be used for both prelims.  Contestants will be double judged in Round II in order to get three preliminary ranks.  Those qualifying for finals will prep a second time.  News wire copy and commercial material will be provided at the tournament.  Radio contestants are to be ranked last (6th place) if they are not within the 4:50 to 5:05 time.
 
 
EXTEMP � Extemp speakers will have one 45-minute prep period.  That speech will be used for both prelims.  Contestants will be double judged in Round III.  Contestants qualifying for final round will have a second prep. Please adhere to the IHSA rulings regarding the use of laptops in the prep room.

Contestants are to bring ONE selection.  
 
Time:
With the exception of Radio, there will be no penalties attached for time.
