Hello, Speech Coaches,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the second annual Plainfield North Fall Classic on Saturday, November 19, 2016.  This tournament will showcase all fourteen IHSA events and follow IHSA rules.  Novice and Varsity competitors are welcome; however, there will not be separate finals for each. Registrations will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so act early to secure your team’s spot.

Please accept or decline this invitation through your SpeechWire account, or via email (harley.brook@gmail.com) by October 21st.  We ask that you be as precise as possible with your projections; the more accurate you are, the more teams we can accommodate.

A tentative schedule is listed below. After registrations are closed we will send a finalized schedule and details on drop-off/pickup locations.

7:15	ES and RS prep for Preliminary Rounds (Media Center)
7:30	Judges/Coaches Meeting (Open Area 1)
8:00	Preliminary Round I (All events; single-judged)
9:30	Preliminary Round II (All events; single-judged)
11:00	Preliminary Round III (All events; single-judged)
12:45	ES and RS prep for Finals (Media Center)
1:30	Finals (All events; triple-judged)
3:00*	Awards (Auditorium or Cafeteria)

Entry Fees and Judge Numbers

Either send or bring with you a check (made out to Plainfield North High School) for the following amount:

Judges

Judges will keep time in Radio Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking.  Please ensure they have their own stopwatches.  Also, please make sure your judges know how Impromptu Speaking runs.  All judges will be used in each flight and must wait for all finals assignments to be posted before leaving. Even if there are drops, you are still required to provide the judges from the original confirmed entry. And your judges will be used for every flight. Please pay attention to assignments. You will be responsible for the fee of a judge if you do not bring enough. Hired judges are available at the rate of $90 for the day.

Limited Preparation Events

Extemp and Radio will prep once for preliminary rounds and a second time for finals. Please make sure your competitors are aware of the rules, as they will be enforced.  Please notify us in advance if you have a speaker double-entered in Extemp and Radio so SpeechWire can schedule accordingly.  IHSA guidelines for Impromptu Speaking will be followed. (Two minutes of prep time with the judge on-hand, followed by five to six minutes of speaking.) Radio timing begins with the first word spoken by a competitor, excluding a microphone check and/or a countdown.

 

Finals and Awards

Rank alone will be used to advance individuals to finals. Fewer than six may be advanced to keep the final round below nine participants.  Judges’ preferences will be used to break ties in finals.  All finalists will be awarded and awards for the top five teams in the sweepstakes will follow. Plainfield North will not compete in the team sweepstakes. 

Concessions

The PNHS Speech Team Boosters will have an assortment of food and beverage options available for purchase throughout the day. 

Roster Confirmations

Please confirm final numbers in each event in SpeechWire by noon on Thursday, November 17^th. Entries will not be added past this time.  Once the tournament is scheduled after Thursday’s confirmation, rounds will not be balanced due to drops, and drops made past noon will not affect judge numbers. After noon, you are still required to bring the number of judges from your original confirmation.

We are excited to be hosting this tournament  and are hopeful that we will see both old friends and new faces on November 19^th!
