2. Phi Rho Pi rules govern NPDA Debate, which means no coaching is allowed during the 15-minute preparation period. Students are allowed the use of any materials to prep. Topic announcement will take place in the round. Teams will be presented with three topics. Opposition team has 30 seconds to strike one topic. Government team then has 30 seconds to strike a topic. The remaining topic shall be the resolution for that round.
3. A schools top 4 slots in each event will count towards sweepstakes. Sweepstakes for final placing are awarded as follows: 6thplace = 1pt., 5th place = 2 pts., 4th place = 3 pts., 3rd place = 4pts. , 2nd place = 5 pts., 1st place = 6 pts. (In NPDA and IPDA, schools will receive 5 pts for each win in prelims).
4. Students may enter 3 events per pattern. PLEASE NOTE: Students are NOT allowed to enter both individual events and debate on the same day!!!
5. We will be offering IPDA Individual Debate. IPDA and Phi Rho Pi rules govern IPDA debate. Students will be given a choice of 5 resolutions (2 policy, 2 fact/value, 1 metaphor). Negative will strike first, Affirmative will strike second, and so on until one resolution is left. Prep time begins as soon as Negative strikes first. As per Phi Rho Pi/IPDA rules, students ARE allowed to consult electronic devices and the internet during prep time. Students may also transcribe notes gathered from these sources to be used in the round. However, students are NOT allowed to use these devices during the round. Please consult ipdadebate.info for more information on format and structure.
6. ALSO NOTE: Debate will be run Phi Rho Pi style. Teams with the top winning records will be advanced to a Bronze/Gold round.
