Dear Coach and Speakers,

Welcome to the BEN DAVIS GIANT SPEAKERS Debate Your Heart Out Tournament on December 3rd, 2016.  The meet will be held at Ben Davis High School located at 1200 N Girls School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46214.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE

All Registration will be done on www.speechwire.com. No emails, faxes or paper entries will be accepted. Entries must be received by Wednesday, November 30th by 5:00 PM EST.  Please make sure you included your email address with your entry so I can send you confirmation of your entry.  You will be allowed to make names changes and drops only until Friday. December 2nd, 2016 NOON.

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE

This will be an open division tournament with four rounds of competition.

Entry Per  Category:  LD, PF, Policy – 5 entries, Congress – 6 entries, World School Debate – 3 teams only

FINAL REGISTRATION 7:00 AM – 7:30 AM

ROUND ONE      8:00 AM

ROUND TWO     10:00 AM

ROUND THREE  12:00 AM

ROUND FOUR    2:00 AM

 

CONGRESS – FIRST SESSION - 8:30 AM - -10:30 AM

CONGRESS – SECOND SESSION - 12:30 PM --2:30 PM

 

TOURNAMENT TOPICS:

LD:

Resolved: The United States ought to limit qualified immunity for police officers.

 

POLICY

Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.

 

Public Forum

 Resolved: The United States should end Plan Colombia.

 

 

 

WORLD SCHOOL DEBATE

Round 1- This house believes that the feminist movements have achieved their primary objective.

Round 2- Impromptu

Round 3- This house believes that law enforcement officials should not be able to use social media to track individuals.

Round 4- This house believes that the next president of the United State should prioritize our relationship with Latin America.

BALLOT RETURN

All judges should return their signed and properly scored ballots and completed critique sheets at the end of each round to the ballot table located in the S HALL.  Judges are expected to stay for the entire meet and the entire round.  COACHES: Scores will not be posted.

 

CONCESSIONS

There should be no leaving the building as food for students will be served in the cafeteria. Complimentary food for judges, coaches and bus drivers will be Le Gallery.

 

JUDGE REQUIREMENTS

Each school MUST bring one judge for every 4 debaters and every fraction thereof i.e. two policy teams = 1 judge).  Teams that do not bring enough judges may have entries dropped at the discretion of the tournament director.

 

AWARDS

Ribbons will be given to the top 10 in each category.
