Entries

Schools may enter up to five students per event. Students may enter a maximum of two events per bracket, for a total of six events. In order for school judges to be used, teams with larger entries may have students “doubled up” in rounds in order to facilitate the use of all judges.

Deadline for Entries

Entries must be received to Speechwire by NOON, Tuesday, February 14th.  A $5 nuisance fee will be added to any changes after this time. An email confirmation will be sent by Tuesday night.

Fees

There is a $40 membership fee that must be paid at registration. Entry fees are $5 per individual entry. Uncovered slots are $10 per slot. One judge covers six entries. Judges who request exclusion from an event(s) cover only 3 slots.

Judge Note

As we must rely heavily on hired judges, it is important to bring as many qualified judges as possible, especially those who are impartial to your own team and may be hired as clean judges. If you know of any impartial judges who are available, we would be happy to hire them at $10 a round.

Standards

AFA event guidelines will be followed with the exception of Oratory, which will adhere to ISO rules.

Extemp

Wireless Internet will be available and can be used, but connectivity is not guaranteed. Preliminary rounds will employ typical topic areas such as domestic, International, etc. Meanwhile, the final round will feature questions exclusively about Wisconsin themes.

Awards

Individual awards will be presented to the top six speakers in each event. Every student is entered in individual sweepstakes, however, only their top five events count for an individual sweepstakes award. Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top five schools and top five individuals.

Tournament tiebreakers

Individual preliminary rounds: 1) Cumulative rank, 2) Cumulative points, 3) Number of first-place ranks in prelims

Individual final round placings: 1) Cumulative rank, 2) Judges preference

Team sweepstakes: 1) Total points, 2) Number of state champions, 3) Number of finalists

Individual sweepstakes: 1) Total points, 2) Number of first-place ranks in finals, 3) Number of finals
