Dear Coach,
It’s that time again! The Tenth Annual Pinecrest Open Speech and Debate Tournament will be held Saturday, September 24th at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, and…BIG NEWS…This year, its back in the hands of its creator, Libby Carter. It promises to be a fabulous kick off event for your season. Come hone your skills. Please plan on joining us at Pinecrest!
Competition will be offered in Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Oral Interp (CFL rules), Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speech, Informative Speaking, Program of Oral Interpretation and Original Oratory. Competition will be offered in Varsity and Novice categories in Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas debate. Speech events with six or more entries will be broken into Novice and Varsity categories as well.
School registration fee is $15.00 with $10.00 per student per event.
Public Forum Debate will use the September/October topic, Resolved: In United States public K-12 schools, the probable cause standard ought to apply to searches of students. Lincoln-Douglas Debate will use the September/October topic, Resolved: Countries ought to prohibit the production of nuclear power. Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate will use the Novice topic, Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified.
Congressional Debate will use the legislation bank from the NSDA.
Novice speech competitors will not be penalized for using their scripts.
The Carter Cup will be presented to the team winning sweepstakes. Libby Carter, the original Hall of Fame Pinecrest Speech and Debate coach, will be available to present the award this year!
