NYCUDL Girls Debate League Tournament

Hunter College, The City University of New York

 

On behalf of the New York City Urban Debate League, the Girls Debate League and Hunter College, you are cordially invited to the NYCUDL Girls Debate League Tournament on June 3rd , 2016 for a day of exciting, fun and intense debate excitement.

 

We will offer one debate format: Public Forum Debate , featuring 3 rounds of debate of public forum debate.

 

Judges’ training will be available for individuals interested in judging public forum debate.

ONLINE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES IS 5PM – June 1st, 2016

 

Once registration is closed on Wednesday June 1st at 5pm, you may still drop or change the names of your entries and judges, but you may not add any additional names.

Judging Assignment

Each school must provide one judge for every two teams competing.

 

There will be judge training for new/inexperienced judges.  Providing a judge for training may also count toward fulfillment of your judging assignment. 

 

Judges must check in on the morning of the tournament by 9:00am, the latest.

TOPICS

 

Public Forum:

Topic – Title IX – Resolution:  On balance, Title IX should be enforced and preserved.

Parliamentary Debate:

Topic – Title IX – Motion:  This House believes that Title IX should be enforced and preserved.

 

LATE ARRIVAL POLICY

 

Once check-in closes (at 9:00am) – late arrivals will forfeit the first round and will debate round 2 (even if only late by a few minutes).  During round 1, late arrivals should observe and flow debates.

 

We must emphasize this rule in order to have an efficient, timely and well-managed tournament.  Please oblige to this request. 

 

AWARDS

 

Speaker points will be on the scale of 30 points.

 

We will provide awards for top speakers and top teams

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS TO THE TOURNAMENT

Subway and MetroNorth Directions

Take the 6 train to the Lexington Avenue and 116th Street stop. Exit the subway and walk 1 block east to 3rd Avenue. Make a left, and walk three blocks north to 119th Street.

You can also take the 456 trains or MetroNorth to 125th Street. From there, walk to 3rd Avenue and then to 119th Street.

Bus Directions

Take the northbound M101 or M103 to 119th Street and 3rd Avenue. Alternatively, you can take the southbound M15 to 119th Street and 2nd Avenue, then walk 1 block west.

Driving Directions from Queens / Long Island

From the Long Island Expressway (495 West), take exit 22A toward Grand Central Parkway. Merge onto Grand Central Parkway, then continue onto 278 East. Take exit 46 toward FDR Drive. Merge onto the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, keep right at the fork, and follow signs for 125 Street and 2nd Avenue. Travel south on 2nd Avenue for 8 blocks. Turn right onto 117th Street. Drive one block, then make a right onto 3rd Avenue. Drive two block north to 119th Street and 3rd Avenue.

Driving Directions from Bronx / Westchester

Start by driving West on route 278. Take the exit toward FDR Drive. Merge onto the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, keep right at the fork, and follow signs for 125 Street and 2nd Avenue. Travel south on 2nd Avenue for 8 blocks. Turn right onto 117th Street. Drive one block, then make a right onto 3rd Avenue. Drive two block north to 119th Street and 3rd Avenue.

Driving Directions from New Jersey via the Lincoln Tunnel

Take the Lincoln Tunnel, and take the exit toward 40th Street. Turn right onto 40th Street. Travel approximately 9 block east. Turn left onto 3rd Avenue. Drive north to 119th Street and 3rd Avenue.

Driving Directions from New Jersey via the George Washington Bridge

Take the Upper Level on the George Washington Bridge. Take exit 2 toward University Avenue. Merge onto Harlem River Drive. Take exit 19 toward 2nd Avenue and 125th Street. Travel south on 2nd Avenue. Turn right onto 117th Street. Drive one block, then make a right onto 3rd Avenue. Drive two block north to 119th Street and 3rd Avenue.
