Dear Coaches, we are delighted to invite you to the Seventy-First Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament.

Due to the threat of inclement weather this weekend, we will be re-scheduling our tournament for March5- same bat time, same bat channel! We hope to see you then!

We are offering competition in 14 events: Lincoln-Douglas (Novice and Varsity), Public Forum Debate (Novice and Varsity), Congress, Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Program Oral Interpretation, and Informative Speaking,Oral Interpretation, Storytelling, and Impromptu Duet Acting. All events will follow NSDA guidelines with the exception of IDA. Those rules are as follows:

Impromptu Duet Acting

Students will pair up and deliver an improvised performance/skit involving two characters and a situation. The students will draw three topics, choose one, and receive 2 minutes of prep time in which they may not communicate with their partner. The time limit of the speech shall be 5 minutes—however, each team is given a 30 second “GRACE PERIOD” without penalty. Students are limited to their imaginations, voices and bodies—no furniture, props or costumes are allowed.  Teams may look at each other, interact with each other and are not required to present an introduction.  Students should USE their prompts and bring the scene to some sort of resolution.  Creativity and originality should play a large role in the judge’s decision.

All categories (with the exception of Congress) will compete in 4 rounds. The top six from each category will be recognized at our awards ceremony.

Registration will close on Wednesday, March 2 at 5:00 pm. Any drops made after this time will be subject to losing the entry fee.

Congress will use the following legislation from the TFL East website: # 6, 10, 11, 12, 15, 18, 25, 28, 29, 30. These can be accessed at  http://www.ncspeechanddebate.org or under "Files for Download".

Debate will be using February's topics.
