Eagle Rising Speech and Debate Tournament

Dear Friends and Colleagues, On behalf of the Fleming Island High School Speech and Debate Club, we cordially invite you to attend the first annual Eagle Rising Speech and Debate Tournament on November 14th, 2015! Events Offered: Varsity Public Forum Debate, Novice Public Forum Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Congressional Debate, Team Debate (Policy) Declamation, Oratorical Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, DUO Interpretation, and Original Oratory, Exemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking. Numbers: 6 in each category (6 in each Congress area) Double Entry is allowed. Entry Fee: $15.00 per student—includes lunch—payable to Fleming Island High School. Entry is charged from the time you register on the website. Judges: 1 judge for every 5 IE (including Congress), and 1 judge for every 2 debaters or fraction thereof, but you may not mix Team Debate (Policy), Public Forum Debate, or Lincoln-Douglas judges. Please ensure that you have the correct number of debate judges. Schools with more than 20 IE competitors will only need 5 judges. No high school student judges. Deadline and Fees: Entries will be accepted through November 10th, 2015. Changes and drops may be made until Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 at 11:59 pm. Please email me (Benita Saunders) any changes/drops and judge names after Wednesday evening. Drops done or “discovered” on the day of the actual tournament will result in the forfeiture of the entry fee. Lunch: Fleming Island High School will provide lunch. Lunches are included in the entry fee. Please specify lunch choices to bfsaunders@oneclay.net. The lunch options are: turkey, ham or roast beef subs and chips are included. If you miss the deadline on lunches, the entire school entry will receive the default lunch, which is a turkey sub. Please remember to order lunch for your judges and coaches separately. The cost for lunch for judges and coaches is $5.00. If you do not email lunch order for coaches and judges, the item will automatically be added. Please note: this is a closed-campus tournament. If you or any of your team members leaves campus for lunch, the entire team may be disqualified. Registration: Registration begins at 7:00am on November 14th, 2015 and ends at 7:45am. Please be prompt. Forfeiture Rules: For students, all rounds are subject to judge-arrival-plus-ten-minutes forfeit rule. Debate Topics: Novice and Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate: 2015 November/December Topic: Resolved: In the United States criminal justice system, jury nullification ought to be used in the face of perceived injustice Policy Debate 2015-2016 Topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially curtail its domestic surveillance. Novice and Varsity Public Forum: 2015 November Topic: Resolved: In response to the current crisis, a government should prioritize the humanitarian needs of refugees over its national interests. Congress Bills/Resolution: Upload Congress Bills/Resolutions to www.speechwire.com before or on Friday November 6, 2015 at 11:59PM. You may enter no more than 2 pieces of legislation per school. If you are entering both novice and varsity students, then you may send 2 pieces of legislation for each or 4 B/R total. Legislation should be emailed to bfsaunders@oneclay.net.
