Welcome to the 55th Annual Denfeld Rotary Speech Tournament! The Denfeld Speech Team invites your team to the 55th Annual Denfeld Tournament. We welcome all teams of all sizes and expereince levles. Many coaches feel this tournament offers the best of both worlds; strong, challenging competition and also an opportunity for many on their teams to excel. Denfeld's tournament has become a favorite of those programs looking to bring their team on an over-night trip, early in the season, to jump start their team spirit and competiveness! Duluth is a great option for its hotels, restuarants and historic waterfront beauty. We'd love to have your team join us this season! When: Saturday, Feb. 6. 2016 Where: Denfeld High School - 401 N. 44th Ave. W. Duluth, Mn. 55807 Registration: 7:30-8:30 a.m. Round 1 - Begins at 9:00. Draws begin at 8:45. We will have On-site registration. Draw Events Meeting: For ALL in Draw events - 8:35 a.m. in the Auditorium Judges' Meeting - In Lounge - Room 2408 - at 8:50 a.m. Format: 3 Rounds and Finals (top 7) and Honor Finals (8-15) Team Awards for the top 6 schools. Fees: $7.00 per speaker. Make checks to Denfeld High School Speech. Tournament Director: Jill Lofald - jill.lofald@isd709.org or 218-391-4696 Rules: MSHSL and NSDA. Double entries - Allowed in all events. Discussion will begin 15 minutes later. No triple entering please. New Time Limit Rules for MSHSL: All draw events (Extemp. Speaking, Extemp. Reading and Storytelling) are at 7 minutes. All other events are at 10 minutes. We will ask judges to time at this tournament. We will allow a 30 second grace period in all events. We will instruct judges to not give a 1 in a round to someone who went over the 30 second grace option. We will instruct judges to stop speakers at 11:00 minutes. Please note that the new MSHSL time rules will NOT have a grace period. New category at our tournament: We are offering an event titled POI. It is a cutting from Poetry, Prose and Drama that can follow a theme. We will email a better category description closer to our tournament date. This is a new event in the National Speech and Debate Association and many Minnesota tournaments are offering this unique, challenging and exciting category! Double-entry: Yes! Must make schedule work for you. The schedule will already be adjusted so speakers should follow their schedule! Judge ratio: One judge for every 6 speakers . Can hire judges for $75.00. Get your requests in early! Need to contact Jill via email for judge hiring. Do NOT add a hired judge to your team registration. Awards: Top 14 plus ribbon winners and Top 6 schools. Also our Senior Salutes! Great concession for students and Hospitality Room for Coaches and Judges Registration Deadline: Tuesday, Feb. 2nd - 7:00 p.m.Can continue to make changes online until Saturday morning - 8:00 a.m. Please call Jill at 218-391-4696 with final team numbers on Saturday morning but you CAN go into the SpeechWire program until 8:00 a.m. but call Jill with adds and drops starting at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday if needed. Guidelines for MSHSL events: Extemp Reading will have ODD NUMBERED stories and Poetry 1-24. Storytelling will have stories 1-10 and in Discussion the tasks will come from Point 1. NEITOC Bid Tournament - New to many of us so we will have an Informational Booth at this tournament! This tournament is in Denver on May 8-10, 2016.
