NYCUDL MS Parliamentary Debates #1 PS 161 – Pedro Albizu Campos On behalf of the New York City Urban Debate League & PS 161 – Pedro Albizu Campos, you are cordially invited to the NYCUDL MS Parliamentary Debates #1 on October 10th, 2015 for a day of exciting, fun and intense debate excitement. We will offer three rounds of Middle School Parliamentary Debate. Judges’ training will be available for individuals interested in judging parliamentary debate.

Registration will take place on speechwire.com. The link to the registration is: If you have any questions or issues regarding registration, please email the program director, Aubrey Semple at aubrey@debate.nyc ONLINE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES IS 5PM – OCTOBER 7RD, 2015 Once registration is closed on Wednesday October 7th at 5pm, you may still drop or change the names of your entries and judges, but you may not add any additional names. RULES ON REGISTERING BEGINNER/ADVANCED TEAMS The student must be entered in the ADVANCED division if: 1) The student has competed in a previous season of debate 2) The student has three or more times ranked in the top 15 through a team award or individual speaker 3) The student is partnered with 1 or 2 other speakers who qualify as advanced ***By coach discretion, a student can compete in the advanced division without having officially qualified. However, no student who qualifies as advanced may compete in the beginner division. First-time debaters start in the beginner division; can move to the advanced division within the year depending on performance, as stipulated above. This is to ensure competitive equity to all competitors at the tournament.
JUDGING OBLIGATIONS Each school must provide one judge for every 3 teams competing. There will be judge training for new/inexperienced judges. Providing a judge for training may also count toward fulfillment of your judging assignment. Judges must check in on the morning of the tournament by 9:00am, the latest.
TOPICS PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE
LATE ARRIVAL POLICY
Once check-in closes (at 9:00am) – late arrivals will forfeit the first round and will debate round 2 (even if only late by a few minutes). During round 1, late arrivals should observe and flow debates. We must emphasize this rule in order to have an efficient, timely and well-managed tournament. Please oblige to this request.
AWARDS Speaker points will be on the scale of 30 points. We will provide awards for top speakers, top teams and sweepstakes points for top schools.

Location: PS 161 Address: 499 West 133rd Street, New York, NY 10027 Directions The school is located between Amsterdam Avenue and Convent Avenue. The entrance is closer to Amsterdam Avenue. The school is close to the 137th Street - City College stop on the 1 train (https://goo.gl/maps/2v93c), and the 125th street stop on the A, B, C and D trains (https://goo.gl/maps/1QClA). If you plan on using public transportation, please check mta.info on the day-of for any service changes. Transportation Details: If arriving by A or D trains from Manhattan, sit in the front of the train. Get off at 125th, walk west 2 blocks on 127th and north 5 blocks on Convent Ave. You'll find the back of the school at 133rd and Convent. Circle around to the main entrance at 134th and Amsterdam. If arriving by B or C trains from Manhattan, sit in the back of the train. Get off at 135th. Walk through the hilly St. Nicholas Park via a series of outdoor staircases. Continue west on 135th until you hit Amsterdam. Main entrance at 134th and Amsterdam. If arriving by 1 train from Manhattan, get off at 137th-City College. Walk south on Broadway 3 blocks. Walk east on 135th st. Main entrance at 134th and Amsterdam.
