The Madison West High School Forensics team invites your team to our 5th annual invitational forensic tournament. It begins with student congress on Friday, March 18 and speech events on Saturday, March 19.

This tournament is an official bid tournament for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) in the categories of Duo Interp, Oratory, Dramatic Interp (Solo Serious), Humorous Interp (Solo Humorous) and Duet Acting (Play Acting with 2 people).  Bids are awarded based on the total number of entries in each category as follows: 35+ entries, all finalists; 20-34 entries, top three; less than 20 entries, first place.  Complete details and entry information on NIETOC are available at nietoc.com

Registration opens February 8, 2016

Rules:

WFCA rules will be used for all events (For a list of rules see www.wfcaforensics.org) with the following clarifications:

  • Solo acting and OIL are a maximum of 10 minutes, but 8-minute performances will not be penalized.
  • Oratory is a maximum of 10 minutes, but 8-minute speeches will not be penalized.  This is to accommodate the fact that we are not offering Public Address as a separate category.  We encourage those with PA speeches to enter in Oratory.  However, we will adhere to the WFCA no notes allowed rule.
  • Oratorical Declamation will follow NCFL rules and is limited to 9th and 10th graders.  Prelim scores in Declamation will not count toward team sweepstakes.

Similar to the way we announce Prose or Poetry for specific rounds in OIL, at our tournament we will announce which specific type of story must be told each round for Storytelling.  There will be no Storytelling cards.

Entries:

Students are allowed to enter one or two events, but not both Extemp and Radio. The same material may not be used in separate events.

Teams are capped at 80 total entries. Your top 25 entries will count toward team scores with a maximum of four entries counted per event. Oratorical Declamation is offered and the finalists will be recognized with medals and trophies like all other categories.  However, since this is not a WFCA category, there will be no sweepstakes points awarded to teams for entries in this event.

Due to space constraints, we are limited to 400 total entries.  Please get your team entered early to avoid any last minute disappointment.

Deadlines:

Please register via Speechwire.com by 5:00pm, Friday, March 11th.  Coaches can manage their own drops on Speechwire.com until 3:30 PM, Friday, March 18th. After that point, email drops to jrademacher@madison.k12.wi.us at your earliest possible convenience.

There is no penalty for drops received by 8:00pm, Thursday, March 17th.  Entries dropped after that time will still be charged.  Day of tournament drops are strongly discouraged.

If you encounter any problems with the online registration, don't hesitate to email jrademacher@madison.k12.wi.us. A registration confirmation will be emailed out after registration closes. Coaches can also view up-to-the minute fees on Speechwire.com.

On the day of the tournament you must TEXT between 7:00-7:30 AM to confirm ALL your entries, EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO DROPS. This will ensure that we get started on time. Text John Rademacher at 608-335-4837 AND Rita Pello at 224-639-2532.  Any Saturday morning drops must be texted in as soon as possible!

Since we don't have all your number in our phone contact lists, please use this format when confirming your entries:

A fee of $9.00 for each individual entry and $12 for group entries (Duo, Group Interp, Play Acting). Entry fees are per entry, not per student. Fees will be based on your confirmed entries as of 4:00 March 17.

Judges:

Each school must provide one judge for every five entries or portion of five entries. Each Duo, Group Interp or Play Acting is considered one entry. Please try to bring your own quality judges. Your judge commitment will be based on your entry as of Thursday, March 17th.  ALL judges are committed to being available through final rounds.
