Pinecrest Speech and Debate
Dear Coach,
Please join us for the Eighth Annual Pinecrest Open Speech and Debate Tournament to be held Saturday, September 26th at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, NC. We will be offering competition in Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Novice categories in Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas debate. We will be offering Novice and Varsity categories for speech events that have six or more entries. Competition will be offered in Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congress, Humorous Interp, Dramatic Interp, Duo Interp, Oral Interp, Impromptu Speaking, Extemporaneous Speech, and Original Oratory.
Our school registration fee is $25.00 and $10.00 per student per event.
Public Forum Debate will use the September/October topic: : Resolved: The United States Federal Government ought to pay reparations to African Americans.
Lincoln-Douglas Debate will use the September/October topic: Resolved: Adolescents ought to have the right to make autonomous medical choices.
Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate will use the Novice topic: Resolved: Civil disobedience in a democracy is morally justified.
Congressional Debate will use the legislation bank on the NSDA site
Novice speech competitors will not be penalized for using their scripts.
Oral interpretation will be prose/poetry in alternating rounds.
We will be presenting the Carter Cup, our new sweepstakes cup, to the winning team. As many of you are aware, this cup is being presented to honor our former coach, Mrs. Libby Carter.
We sincerely hope that you and your team will be able to join us on the 26th! Drop date is September 23rd Registration will take place from 8:00-8:30am in the media center at PHS. Please write your checks to: Pinecrest Forensics Boosters.
