Student Congress:

  • Varsity Student Congeess legislation should remember the following information in regards to submission:
  • A school that enters competitors in the Congressional Debate division is required to submit at least one piece appropriately formatted legislation.
    • Legislation is tied to the student and not the school. Thus, each competitor may submit one piece of legislation. No competitor may serve as the author of more than one piece of legislation. 
    • Legislation must be submitted to Zach Becker at dogwoodlegislation@gmail.com no later than noon November 4, 2015. 
    • Legislation will be posted no later than the Monday, November 9th
    • In order to expedite the release of the legislation packet, the League has adopted templates. They can be found on the website, but for ease they also have been posted to Speechwire.

 

Lincoln Douglas Topic:

  • Resolved: In the United States criminal justice system, jury nullification ought to be used in the face of perceived injustice.

 

Public Forum Debate:

  • Resolved: In response to the current crisis, a government should prioritize the humanitarian needs of refugees over its national interests.

 

Lodging: The tournament hotel will be the Wingate by Wyndham State Arena Raleigh/Cary Hotel located at 6115 Corporate Ridge Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607. Reservations for the event will be made by individual attendees directly with the hotel at 919-809-8660. For further assistance, contact the sales manager directly at 919-809-8520. Each room has a king bed with a pull-out sofa and costs $80.  Reservations must be made by noon on October 23rd to secure the advertised price.

 

Food: Food items will be sold most of the day in the student lounge.  Breakfast items will be sold in the morning.  For lunch, subs/salads will be sold for $4.00 each and pizza will be sold for $2 a slice.  Drinks, chips, and other snack items will be available for $1 each.  Food is complimentary for judges in the judges' lounge.  

 

Directions: From I-40, take exit 291 to Cary Towne Boulevard.  Take a left on Walnut Street, drive past the school (which will be on your right), take a right on Maynard Street, and your first right on Jim Volvano Drive into the school's parking lot adjacent to the football field.  Registration for coaches will be in the auditorium lobby.  Team members will direct students and judges to their appropriate lounges before competition begins.
