Dear Coach and Team:

The Fort Osage Chapter of the National Forensic League cordially invites you to our 2016 Indian Kickoff Classic to be held January 8 & 9, 2016. We will again offer an OPEN division in individual events and separate VARSITY and NOVICE divisions of debate. We are also proud to be a BID SCHOOL for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) which will be held May 13-15, 2016 at Denver East High School, Colorado. Students advancing to qualifying rounds in DI, HI, DUO, and Original Oratory will earn one official bid (two bids earn you a guaranteed entry) for the NIETOC Championship Tournament.

We will host the following events: DEBATE: Varsity Lincoln-Douglas, Novice Lincoln-Douglas, Varsity Public Forum, Novice Public Forum, Varsity Policy and Novice Policy; INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, Duo Interp, International & U.S. Extemp, Original Oratory and Congressional Debate. In order to provide tournament experience before districts, we will offer the two new NSDA events: Program Oral Interp and Informative Speaking, as well as Poetry, Prose, and Storytelling. Each school will be guaranteed two entries in each event, with additional requests being wait-listed and approved based on availability.

The debaters will have four rounds of preliminary competition, breaking to quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. Individual Events will have two preliminary rounds, breaking to semifinals and finals. If we have more than 70 entries in any NIETOC bid qualifying event, we will conduct an "honors finals" for 13th -24th places who will earn a quarterfinals NIETOC bid.  Congress will have two preliminary sessions breaking to a two part final Super Session.

Each school must be accompanied by a coach or qualified adult sponsor who will need to be available to judge, if needed.  In addition, each school entering Novice Debate will need to provide judges (varsity student judges with more that 150 NFL points are encouraged).  If you plan on receiving extra entries, please plan on bringing extra judges to help out. Also, if you know of any willing and able adult judges that would like to come be a part of our tournament, please let us know.

We will be using SpeechWire Tournament Services, and registration will be online through the website, www.speechwire.com. Our entry deadline is Wednesday, December 16th, 2015. There will be an opportunity to adjust entry numbers after we get back from break, with the final confirmation on January 5th, 2016. Again, entries will be guaranteed two per event, with extra entries being granted as equitably as possible.

If you have any questions, email me at bphelps@fortosage.net or call me at 816-650-7263 (room) or 816-204-0842 (cell).
