Hello MAFL Friends!

We will kick off the first MAFL tournaments of the 2015-16 season in Indiana. Both MAFL #1 and MAFL #2 will be hosted on the Ball State University campus on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, 2015. Many thanks in advance to Mary Moore & her crew for their hospitality.

Entries: Each school may enter 6 students per event. Each student may enter up to 4 events. Because of the 1 hour and 15 minute time limit for each round, it is strongly recommended that students are only double-entered and not triple-entered in a pattern. It is the responsibility of the student to make it to their rounds on time. Judges cannot wait past the time allotted for the round. Students may not enter all 4 events in one pattern.

*Entries are due Tuesday, September 22 by 5:00 pm CDT. After this point, no new entries will be accepted, however, changes and drops may be made on the Speechwire website until Wednesday, September 23 at 12:00 pm.*

Fees: Please remember that at the first MAFL you attend, you will be required to submit your yearly membership dues of $300.00. This payment entitles your school to attend all of the remaining 2014-15 MAFLs. A non-member school may attend 1 MAFL per season without paying membership dues, but instead pay $8 per entered slot and uncovered judge fees.

Beyond your one-time membership dues, the only fees you will pay at each tournament are for uncovered or dropped slots. Each full-time judge covers 6 slots, and uncovered slots are $10 each. If you bring more than 20 uncovered slots, the fee will be increased to $20 for each slot beyond 20.

*All fees will be assessed on Wednesday, September 23 at 12:00 pm. After this point there will be a $10 charge for each dropped slot.*

Please do not hesitate to contact me (rbuel@monmouthcollege.edu, 805-404-1649) if you have any questions about MAFL tournaments or using Speechwire. Your MAFL Executive Committee is looking forward to a fantastic year!

Cheers,

Rebecca Buel
Executive Secretary, MAFL

PARKING/DIRECTIONS

Campus Map: http://cms.bsu.edu/map

GPS-able Address: 1301 North McKinley Ave

Parking Advice: It is suggested that you park north of the Robert Bell building (RED R2 lot) and gain access to the Letterman building through the Robert Bell building.  Be sure to look for signs. Meters and “Reserved” (handicapped, business, and numbered) spaces are enforced 24/7. You will be ticketed! If you are having trouble with parking, finding Muncie, Ball State University, or the Letterman building please contact Ashley Cokers’ cell phone at (765) 729-3936.

FOOD OPTIONS
On campus:
  • Atrium food court— Lobby of AJ. A popular spot for students to meet, the three-story Atrium in the Art and Journalism Building is a 400-seat food court that includes an outdoor courtyard and several food establishments ranging from Italian, Asian, and Mexican to burgers, chicken, subs, and salads. (Probably the quickest option)
  • Woodworth—a large variety of options:  pizza, sandwiches, salads, stir-fry, home-cooked style, desserts, deli, grill, etc.
  • Noyer— sandwiches, grill, home-cooked style, groceries.

Off campus:
  • The Village— Take McKinley south to University, turn left (east).  A variety of restaurants.  We recommend The Locker Room (great specials), Scotty’s (excellent food, but a little pricey), and The Cup (a coffee shop with excellent bagels and bagel sandwiches).  You can also find Subway, Jimmy Johns, Pita Pit, and other restaurants/bars.
