Welcome to the tournament website for the 3rd Annual East Ridge Raptor Invitational Speech Tournament!

We are excited to offer great competition and a fun atmosphere for competitors, coaches, and judges. The East Ridge Raptor Invitational will feature all 13 MSHSL categories and there is no limit to total team entries. Once again this year the East Ridge Raptor Invitational is an NIETOC bid tournament.

Registration Deadline:
TEAM DEADLINE: Monday, February 8th at 5:00pm
ENTRY DEADLINE: Thursday, February 11th at 12:00pm
After that time, all drops will be assessed a fee of $7.00

Scheduling:
We will be site scheduling this tournament, so please make all necessary changes to your registration on Speechwire until registration closes on Saturday morning. You may text any of your drops to Alex Carlson (651) 387-2914.

Entry Limits:
Each category has a cap of 90 entries total.
Each team has a cap of 10 entries per category.
Students may double enter in any category. Discussion will begin 15 minutes prior to first round to allow those students time to attend their second category. Discussion students may not double enter in a draw category.

Entry Fees:
$7.00 per entry (Duos count as 1 entry)
Checks can be made payable to "East Ridge Speech Boosters"

Judging Requirements:
Teams are required to bring 1 judge for every 7 entries. Additional judges will be available to hire for $90.00 if teams cannot meet this requirement. Please contact Alex Carlson as soon as possible if you anticipate you will need to hire a judge.

Tournament Divisions:
This tournament will offer both a Varsity and Novice division. A Novice is considered someone who is in their first year as a high school speech competitor. Novices and Varsity will compete together in prelims with a separate Novice final round for any students who do not advance in a Varsity final round.

Tournament Format:
There will be three preliminary rounds of competition followed by a Final consisting of students who ranked 1-6 in prelims and a Next-In Final consisting of students who ranked 7-12 in prelims. If there is a high number of entries in Humorous, Drama, Duo, or Original Oratory, there may be a Merit and Consolation final added for contestants who ranked 13-18 and 19-24 in prelims (in order to give each of those students an NIETOC bid). There will also be a Novice Final for any categories that have at least 6 Novices that did not break into one of the Varsity final rounds.

Second Building:
We will be using Lake Middle School as a second site to hold additional categories again this year. A shuttle bus will be in continuous operation to bring students between the two sites. New this year - there will be a tab room at the Middle School so that judges do not need to bring their ballots back on the shuttle. Judges may be assigned at the different locations, but they won't have to rush to return or pick up ballots between the two buildings.

NIETOC Bid Tournament:
The East Ridge Raptor Invitational is officially a bid tournament site for the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions. Students competing in Drama, Duo, Humorous, or Original Oratory have the ability to earn a bid that will get them one step closer to competing at the NIETOC Tournament in Denver, Colorado from May 13-15, 2016. For more information visit their official website. (NOTE: Because we are an NIETOC qualification tournament, students are allowed to enter Prose or Poetry pieces in Drama.)

MSHSL Categories:

Extemp. Reading (Poetry): Stories 1-34
Storytelling: Stories 1-10
