NYCUDL March Public Forum and Policy Debate Tournament Middle School 297 – Hawtree Creek Middle School
On behalf of the New York City Urban Debate League and MS 297 Hawtree Creek Middle School, you are cordially invited to the NYCUDL March Public Forum and Policy Debate Tournament on March 7, 2015 for a day of exciting, fun and intense debate excitement.
We will offer two debate formats, Public Forum and Policy Debate, featuring three rounds of debate for both debate formats.
Judges’ training will be available for individuals interested in judging public forum and policy debate.

Registration
Registration will take place on speechwire.com.
Each school may enter up to 5 teams. If there is additional room, we will be happy to accommodate request for additional teams.
Each team requires one judge for every four teams competing.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES IS 5PM – March 4TH, 2014
We will offer two debate formats, Public Forum and Policy Debate, featuring three rounds of debate for both debate formats.
Points will be on the scale of 30 points, within the range of 25-30 points.
We will provide awards for top speakers, top teams and sweepstakes for top schools.
Topics
Public Forum:
National March PF Topic: Topic: Education – Resolved: In the United States, students should be guaranteed two years of free tuition to a community or technical college.
Local NYCUDL PF Topic – Topic: Equal Rights Amendment – Resolved: The United States constitution should be amended to establish section 1 of the Equal Rights Act and all subsequent articles.
Policy Debate:
National NSDA Topic: Oceans Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its non-military exploration and/or development of the Earth’s oceans.
IMPORTANT DATES
To submit teams into Speechwire: Wednesday, March 4th by 5PM
Check-in / Day of tournament registration: Saturday, February 7th, by 9:00AM
Once registration closes (at the beginning of the tournament) – those that are late will forfeit the first round and will debate round 2 – they can observe and flow debates in round 1
WE MUST EMPHASIZE THIS RULE IN ORDER TO HAVE AN EFFICIENT, TIMELY AND WELL-MANAGED TOURNAMENT. PLEASE OBLIGE TO THIS REQUEST.
