Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League

2015 State Championship

Hosted At Wayne State University

March 20-21, 2015

Dear MISL Colleagues:

The Department of Communication at Wayne State University in conjunction with the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League (MISL) welcome you and your team to attend the MISL State Championship, taking place on Friday March 20, 2015 and Saturday March 21, 2015 in Manoogian Hall at Wayne State University in Detroit. The tournament will offer all sanctioned MISL events, including Parliamentary Debate and Lincoln Douglas Debate. Entry deadline is Tuesday, March 17, 2015 by 5:00 pm.

All entries should be entered via speechwire.com. The tournament can be found under the “Tournament Calendar” tab and is listed as “Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League State Tournament”. If there are any issues, please email me at bbumstead@gmail.com.

The State tournament will be scored and scheduled in accordance with the MISL Bylaws. This includes the changed rule regarding entries sanctioned at the Fall 2014 MISL meeting. This rule change caps entries per team at 33 total entries, but allows for teams to use this cap however they please in terms of their entry. Further, we will be keeping in line with the National Forensics Association (NFA)’s rules in relation to Impromptu Speaking by offering alternative prompts for the preliminary and final rounds. We look forward to seeing you and your teams!

Sincerely,

Brandon Bumstead, Stephen Mitchell & Nick Prephan, Graduate Assistants & 2015 State Tournament Co-Directors, Wayne State University

Kelly Young, Director of Forensics, Wayne State University

Arthur Valenzuela III, Director of MISL Individual Events, Eastern Michigan University

Katie Beckman, Director of MISL Debate, Delta Community College

Amy Johnson, Director of MISL Oral Interpretation, Eastern Michigan University

Carole Bennett, Executive Director of MISL, Oakland Community College

  7. The top two contestants in Oratory shall represent Michigan at that year’s Interstate Oratory Association’s Tournament.
  8. 9. The Director’s trophy for Quality will be awarded to the school with the highest overall slot quality, determined by dividing the school’s total sweepstakes points by the total number of slots that that school entered into the State Championship Tournament as of the close of registration.
