Dear Fellow Speech Coaches:

You are cordially invited to the annual Dassel-Cokato Charger Speech Invitational to be held Saturday, February 7, 2015. We also hope this will be a strong tournament for teams to start off the season.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. Registration: Up to six per category (duos count as one entry). $6.50 per entry.

2. Double Entering: Double entries will be allowed.

3. Judges: Please bring one judge for every six entries. If you drop students, you still need to provide the number of judges you originally registered. Please note that in the event of unbalanced entries, some of you may judge your own students. We will try to avoid this if at all possible.

4.Schedule:

7:45-8:15 Registration in the commons.

8:30 Draws begin for round 1 in the Media Center

8:45 Meeting for all judges in judges’ lounge in room B-20 (FACS room)

9:00 Round ONE begins for everyone in all categories

9:45 Draws begin for Round 2

10:15 Round TWO begins for all events

11:00 Draws begin for Round 3

11:30 Round THREE begins for all events

1:30 (or as close to) Awards in the Performing Arts Center

5. Format: All MSHSL events

Our coaching staff would like for you to submit your preliminary entries by Friday, January 23rd. We are debating on having a final round. We are planning to decide base on number of entries. If you have a strong preference either way for your team, please email: beth.steinleitner@dc.k12.mn.us  

6. Draw Categories: ALL draw categories will have 30 minutes to prep, starting at 8:30 a.m.

Extemp Reading will have stories 1-10  

Extemp Poetry 1-20

Storytelling will have stories 1-10

Discussion the tasks will come from Section 1 - Political/Military

7. Concessions: We will have food and beverages available for contestants located in the Middle School Commons.

8.  The Awards Ceremony will be held in the Auditorium of the Performing Arts Center after awards.

• Medals will be awarded to the top seven places in each category.

• Honorable Mention ribbons

• Special certificate recognition for our seniors and first year speakers.

• Team awards as well for the top three schools

(Since we will have the awards in the P.A.C., please have your bus drivers pick up your team by the Charger Performing Arts Center door---there will be signs.)

9. Hospitality Room will be available for coaches, judges and bus drivers.

The Dassel-Cokato High School/Middle School complex is located between the communities of Dassel and Cokato on Highway 12. The tournament will be held at the Dassel-Cokato Middle School. Teams should enter at Door I (second set of doors at the school complex).

Please register for the tournament no later than 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Changes to the registration can be made the morning of the tournament no later than 7:30 a.m. the day of the tournament. Please log-in to SpeechWire for the changes. If you are unable to do that Saturday morning please call/text Beth at (612) 205-5880 between 7:00-7:30.
