Dear Colleagues,

Lincoln East and Pius X are pleased to announce a renewed partnership that we hope will serve the forensics community well.  On SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2014, East and Pius X will offer one speech tournament at two sites.  East will host a NOVICE/JV division, while Pius X will handle VARSITY competition.  The East competition is designed for first-year beginners and kids who might have been around, but aren’t quite ready for the big leagues.  We all have them and we know who they are.  We trust your judgment on entry decisions, so please choose your “young ‘uns” wisely . . . no ringers, please.  We are also pleased to announce the Pius X varsity division is a NIETOC qualifying tournament this year!

Logistically we feel the tournament will work out well.  Please note:

> Tournament registration times are sufficient to drop off novices and judges at East before taking varsity competitors to Pius, which is about 6 blocks away.

> PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS:  Pius no longer has easy access to school busses.  Consequently, we will NOT provide transportation from East to Pius after the novice events have concluded.  You will need to arrange for your bus/van driver to transport students from East to Pius for the awards ceremony.

> PLEASE NOTE that BOTH divisions of EXTEMPORANEOUS will take place at Pius.  This way your files won’t need to be divided.  However, if novice extempers wish to double enter they must do so in a varsity event.

> Judges will only be used at one site.  Nobody will need to run back and forth between the schools.  If you don't have two coaches (for supervision) that's okay.  Just leave a judge representing you wherever you're not.  In case of an emergency, tournament directors will have cell  phones to contact each other and, thus, you.

We will have concessions available, and of course our coaches’ and judges’ lounge will once again be well stocked with goodies.  We will make every effort to make this an outstanding early tournament for you and your team.

Let us know if you have questions about the “Talk Turkey.”  We hope to see you on the 22nd!

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

FORMAT: There will be three preset rounds breaking to finals. Students may double enter at either site.  No competitor may use the same script or parts of the same script in more than one event.

ENTRIES: Please enter ONLINE at .  Click on the “Tournaments Calendar” button and select the “Turkey Talk.” If you have questions about your entry,  e-mail Matt Davis:  mdavis@lps.org

ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 5:00 p.m. ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17.

LIMITS: Because room availability may be restricted, please limit entries to four per event per division (four novice, four varsity for instance).  Contact us directly if you have a special request to exceed this limit.  Understand your students may hit each other if sections are few and your entries are many.  We must be able to use your judges, so we may need to clear sections to make this possible.

DROP/ADD: Any changes will be accepted through Thursday, November 20.  No adds will be allowed on the day of the tournament.

FEES: Entry fees will be $7.00 per event.  Any entries not "covered" by your judges cost an additional $15.00 per entry.

REGARDLESS OF ENTRIES, PLEASE MAKE ALL CHECKS PAYABLE TO PIUS X HIGH SCHOOL.

JUDGES: You must furnish one judge for every 6 entries or part thereof.  PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO PROVIDE JUDGES.  We were very tight on judges last year, and a shortage of judges threatens the efficiency of the tournament.  You may use non-competing (read, procrastinating) varsity team members who you think will do a good job with the young 'uns as judges in the East division only.  All judges must be available for finals.

AWARDS: Team trophies through third place.  Combined sweeps trophy for Novice + Varsity.  All finalists in each event will receive awards.  Ribbons will be awarded to individuals ranking 1st & 2nd in each round.
