This is a High School tournament in Indiana.

Welcome to the Speedway 500 speech tournament, taking place on Saturday, January 31, 2015!

The deadline for registration (for invited schools only) is Tuesday, January 27 at 5:00pm.

FORMAT:  4 straight rounds, no finals

EVENTS:  All IHSFA speech events.  No debate, no congress.

SWEEPS:  Top 10 place in each event and score sweeps points (1st place=10 pts, 2nd=9, ... 10th=1 pt).  Top 10 teams earn a team trophy.  The host school is not eligible for a team trophy.

ENTRIES:  25 entries per school maximum.  4 entries per event maximum.  No pickups on the day of the tournament.

DOUBLING:  Students double at their own risk.  Students may double in any event except Discussion.  NO contestant may double in two Duos (this includes OP Duos).  Students doubled in Broadcasting should go to their Broadcasting round FIRST.  Students doubled in Impromptu should go to their Impromptu round LAST.  Tripling is not permitted.

JUDGES:  One judge for every 5 entries or fraction thereof.  (5 entries=1 judge, 6 entries=2 judges, etc)

SCHEDULE:

7:00-7:45  Check-in

7:45  Judges' meeting

8:00  Extemp Draw #1, Broadcasting Round 1

8:15  Round 1 begins (all events except Extemp and Broadcasting)

8:30  Extemp Round 1 begins

Rounds begin at 8:15, 9:30, 10:45, and 12:15, for most events.  Extemp Draws are at 8:00 & 10:30.  Broadcasting Rounds begin at 8:00, 9:30, 10:30, & 12:15.

RULES:

Broadcasting:  

     Round 1 - Newscast (Contestants must BRING a prepared, 2-minute newscast)

     Round 2 - Commercial (Contestants must BRING a prepared, 1-minute commerical.  Topic: Tourism in Florida)

     Round 3 - Editorial (Contestants must BRING a prepared, 2-minute editorial.  Topic: Internet hacking)

     Round 4 - On The Spot (2-minute prep, 2-minute performance.  Prompt supplied at the tournament)

Discussion:

     Socratic Seminar format.  Prompts will be emailed on Monday, January 26.  Contestants must BRING prompts/notes to the meet.  Extra copies of prompts will NOT be available at the tournament.

Extemp:

     Draws will occur before Rounds 1 & 3 only.

     Competitors MUST give the Draw 1 speech during Rounds 1 & 2, and the Draw 2 speech during Rounds 3 & 4.

Unless specified above, IHSFA rules govern all events.
