NYCUDL #1 – Middle School Conference – Public Forum and Policy Debate Institute of Collaborative Education
On behalf of the New York City Urban Debate League and Institute of Collaborative Education, you are cordially invited to the NYCUDL Middle School Conference #1 for Public Forum and Policy Debate on October 11, 2014 for a day of exciting, fun and intense debate excitement.
We will offer two debate formats, Public Forum and Policy Debate, featuring three rounds of debate for both debate formats.
Judges’ training will be available for individuals interested in judging public forum and policy debate.

Registration
Registration will tae place on speechwire.com [insert link to the speechwire registration page – once it is setup]
Each school may enter up to 5 teams. If there is additional room, we will be happy to accommodate request for additional teams.
Each team requires one judge for every two teams competing.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES IS 5PM – OCTOBER 8TH, 2014
We will offer two debate formats, Public Forum and Policy Debate, featuring three rounds of debate for both debate formats.
Points will be on the scale of 30 points.
We will provide awards for top speakers, top teams and sweepstakes for top schools.
Resolutions
Policy Division (2014-15) - The resolution: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its non-miltiary exploration and/or development of the Earth's oceans.
Public Forum (October) - The resolution: Resolved: On balance, public subsidies for professional athletic organizations in the United States benefit their local communities.
IMPORTANT DATES
To submit teams into Speechwire: Wednesday, October 8th by 5PM
Check-in / Day of tournament registration: Sunday, October 11th, by 9:30AM
Once registration closes (at the beginning of the tournament) – those that are late will forfeit the first round and will debate round 2 – they can observe and flow debates in round 1
WE MUST EMPHASIZE THIS RULE IN ORDER TO HAVE AN EFFICIENT, TIMELY AND WELL-MANAGED TOURNAMENT. PLEASE OBLIGE TO THIS REQUEST.

2:30pm – End of preliminary round – students gather back for awards
3:00pm – Awards
