Dear Coach,

 

       You and your team are cordially invited to attend the 54th Annual T. Craig Bond Memorial Speech Tournament at Niles McKinley High School.

 

Date:       November 8, 2014

 

Events:                                    6 Deep in Oratorical Interp, Original Oratory, Humorous Interp, Dramatic

Interp, International Extemp, U.S. Extemp, Prose/Poetry, Duo Interp, and Impromptu Speaking. (Your 5th and 6th competitors should be marked JV and may compete against your first 4 speakers.) 8 Deep in Congress

 

Debate:  You may enter 6 in both Lincoln / Douglas Debate and Public Forum Debate. 

 

Adds will be accepted on November 9 in all events if there are drops in event numbers. You must pay for them at that time (or accept an additional invoice to be paid along with your original fees).

 

Fees:      $3.50 per competitor ($7.00 for a duo or a public forum team). MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO:  NILES SPEECH BOOSTERS

 

Deadline:                    SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2 AT 8:00 P.M.

 

                                    YOU MAY REGISTER USING SPEECHWIRE.

 

Judges:                        1 judge for every 5 I.E. competitors

                                    1 Judge for every 6 Congress entries

                                    2 Judges if over 6 Congress entries.

 

                                    1 judge for 1 or 2 L/D Debaters

                                    2 judges for 3 or 4 L/D Debaters

                                    3 judges for 5 or 6 L/D Debaters

                                    THIS SAME RATIO APPLIES TO PUBLIC FORUM TEAMS AS WELL.

 

In I.E., a judge who just graduated from high school last year may NOT

                                    judge the event in which he/she competed.  A parent or other close family

                                    relative should NOT judge the event in which the current competitor

                                    competes. THIS DOES APPLY TO CONGRESS!  (not applicable in L/D or   Public Forum Debate)

 

 

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO MARK JUDGES OFF OF EVENTS WHEN    REGISTERING ON SPEECH WIRE!

 

                                    Do NOT drop judges even though you may be forced to drop contestants.

                                    A dropped judge on the day of the tournament will cost you $30.00.

 

                                    A $30 fine will be assessed for each judge a school is short.

 

Rounds:There will be 3 rounds in all I.E. events and 3 sessions of Congress. There will be 4 rounds in L/D Debate and 4 rounds in Public Forum Debate

 

Food:                           Snacks will be served in both buildings. Lunch will be served in the high

                                    school cafeteria at reasonable prices after rounds are completed.  The

                                    Youngstown District has issued a rule stating that no one (including

                                    judges) is allowed to leave the premises for food either to bring back to

                                    the tournament or to eat at a restaurant.

 

Extemp:    The Prep Room will be the High School Library. Outlets will be    available on a first come first serve basis. If an issue arises my tab room     person has the right to not allow anyone  use outlets.

                                   

                                    Wifi will not be active during the tournament; however, if any student is caught using a wireless device with 3g or 4g capability then they will be                                         disqualified.

 

                                    Topics from the past 90 days of the standard news magazines will be

                                    used. 

                                   

 

Awards:                      The top 6 in each category will receive an award.  There will be a Team

                                    Sweepstakes Trophy as well, based upon your the scores of your 10 best

                                    contestants overall. In addition, we will be awarding the Brian Peteritis      Memorial Trophy for best in tournament performance.

                                   

                                    In I.E., a 1 = 3 pts.;  a 2 = 2 pts.;  a 3 = 1 pt.

                                    In L/D and P/F, a win = 2.25 pts.  (0 pts. for a loss)

                                    In Congress, a 6 = 3pts. a 5=2pts., a 4=1pt.

                                   

Tab:  The tab room at the high school will be located in room 119. That is where you will register. Tab at the Intermediate will be in the computer lab. (Enter   through the main doors and make a right down first hall. It will be first room on left.)

  Tab room is for district committee or by invite only.

 

Because of the size of the tournament and our space limitations, we must use one other building in addition to the high school.  Thus, WE ARE ASKING YOU TO DROP OFF YOUR L/D & P/F DEBATERS AND JUDGES AS WELL AS CONGRESS AND CONGRESS JUDGES BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.  REGISTRATION FOR L/D, P/F, & CONGRESS WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL AT 120 EAST MARGARET STREET. (ABOUT 2 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL.) We will provide a shuttle bus to transport all competitors and judges from the intermediate school back to the high school for lunch and awards after the rounds are completed.

 

REGISTRATION ON SATURDAY = 8:00 – 8:30 A.M.
